When will the NYPD actually have police patrolling the neighborhood, both on foot and in car? It's so crazy that they aren't noticeably making the rounds day and night
Do you live here?? You can not go two blocks without seeing a cop, we need les cops!!!! We need more people to just stop being drunken idiots! Ban alcohol
Yup, less cops will help prevent this… /s
I can't believe people actually advocate for fewer cops on the beat. It's so obvious that not having cops walk the neighborhood and patrol in their cars it what enables violent crime and antisocial behavior (see the ever expanding amount of graffiti).
I will 100% state that it is my belief that more of a police presence could help deter things like this attacks, the TWO murders in Alphabet City recently, the attempted sexual assaults in multiple nearby buildings, and robberies.
police precinct is one block away…sad this individual was viciously attacked by these drunk houligans…hopefully additional video surveillance will lead to arrests
lmaoo "less cops" and "ban alcohol"... ya can't make it up.
Yup. I agree. Beat cops will help. Beat cops can help deal with the zillions of obvious drinking and noise violations and help with more serious crimes. What's wrong with every bodega/restaurant/weed store/bar owner knowing the names of their beat cops? I haven't seen a cop walking a beat, not even in obvious no car places like TSP, for the last 20 years. Also, I have yet to have _any_ interaction with the NYPD that was not hostile, scary, unproductive, weird, dangerous, or wasteful.
This assault was at 3:30am on Second Ave. What's wrong with a beat cop or two or four walking from Houston to 14th St. on Second Ave. _all night_? That's a tiny, tiny fraction of the man hours that we pay the 9th Precinct to provide for our safety. Beat cops on Second Ave. would be likely to either stop this kind of thing or catch the perp and help the victim.
I say we need cops walking beats as someone who thinks the NYPD is way overfunded, over staffed, under regulated, poorly trained, mismanaged, and corrupt. Not to mention that copaganda is skewing our conversations about policing. If the NYPD really spent most of their time chasing stop-n-frisks and pot arrests in the past and that stuff is largely over, then WTF are cops doing with all that extra time? WTF did we pay most of a billion dollars in overtime last year when, in theory, they have a _lot_ more free time?
Not two blocks from the 9th precinct. Hard to believe so many attacks go unnoticed
Oh I see, coos have to be like the Holy Spirit? Every present and all knowing , yeah okay and now its the NYPD fault some guy got hurt? How about the 2 “bro’s” take some responsibility and manage their liquor,
What does the proximity to the police station matter? This happened in front of hundreds of people and no one did anything
There used to be cops on horses cruising the neighborhood much less beat cops and they were effective. Although there are loads of police around I never see them walking the neighborhood, well, actually they do to get coffee but that is it. Does the precinct ever discuss cops walking the neighborhood?
100’s of people were out at 3:40am watching them assault the guy? News to me. Go watch the video.
Any chance this is the same guy in the photo? https://static.wixstatic.com/media/ecc9f7_8714568f21384ec3a837e338bb00032a~mv2.jpg
It seems very possible these 3 knew each other and all 3 were in the same bar and left. No robbery here so a good guess is a disagreement was the cause for attack. Im wondering how people think its possible for the police to monitor every block of every street in NYC 24 hrs a day
