The first one (around the EV) arrived in late August on Second Avenue near First Street. There might be more now! They're multiplying!
Per amNY:
The new structures are operated as a public-private partnership by consortium CityBridge, and are a revamp of the old 10-foot kiosks the firm set up under former Mayor Bill de Blasio starting in 2015 with free Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, a tablet, a 911 button, and calling capabilities.
Nicknames for it so far include "Phal-link," "deBlasiooo" & "32feetOfGray." There are many more in the comments here.

That is an awfully big sex toy. I guess size does matter.
Outside my window, I'm very uncomfortable with this.
Free super fast WiFi though!
I feel your pain. If the kiosk in front my building on 2nd Ave is replaced with one of these monstrosities, the waves will be zooming around from about 15-20 feet from my front window.
Walked by it an hour ago. I'm pretty hardened to NYC things, but that thing's big-time creepy.
Pin drops are supposed to be in google maps only, not actually on the street.
Relax guys.....just cultural thermometers checking to see if the EV is done yet.
Fuglier than anyone could have imagined.
Pictures don’t do that thing justice. Looks menacing. Like aliens put it there.
Wonder where the camera is that isn’t supposed to be there actually is.
These monstrosities are horrendous- as one reader points out right outside their window!!!!!!!! How can they erect these things in front of apartment windows? Where was public input??????
And the pole is further away from the curb than streetlight poles making the sidewalk passage narrow!
It will also function as a giant shawarma meat rack. Homeless eat for free, others pay what you wish. Like a food truck only better.
Big Brother reminders, proven to scramble rat brains, a "pro" in your next real-estate listing, dead bird mysteriously drop while flying nearby, sending subliminal message 24/7 365.
This thing is atrocious and should never have been allowed to be installed.
Back in 2018 Con Ed replaced all the old analog electric meters in the basement of my building with a bank of 20 new smart meters. Con Ed also replaced the analog gas meters with smart meters. These things emit short bursts of RF radiation and create dirty electricity throughout the whole building’s electrical wiring. I live in a ground floor apartment and these meters were right below me! The effects were really strong. Do a google search and check the sources of articles that downplay the adverse effects. I’m not saying they cause cancer, although it wouldn’t surprise me, but there are many other symptoms that might help explain why the world have gone mad.
Is this affecting wildlife yet? Any signs of that on first street? moe dead birds than usual?
The commenters can always be relied upon to provide the woo. Hold on to your yoga mats.
There will be a protest of these things Sunday October 30th, 4:15

You can attend the Community Board 8 meeting to give your thoughts! Today 6:30 pm https://www.cb8m.com/event/24978/
It's becoming obvious that they want these on every block...
There is a group uptown going to community board meetings and fighting these things. Maybe you can link up and get some citywide wgroup work against them
