Video taken from the scene shows extensive damage to the three ground-floor businesses: Joesph's Convenience Store, New Chinatown Restaurant and Royal Fried Chicken. (New Chinatown Restaurant was not open at the time, as firefighters had to cut through the gate to access the establishment.)
At this time, there isn't any official word of injuries, the origin of the fire or the extent of the damage to the residential units.

Horrible! I hope the tenants have somewhere to go.It must have been a big fire as I could heavily smell the smoke in my apartment. (I'm at 3rd btw B and C.)
Grateful that no one was killed, though.
Any fire is a terrible event, and I'm so sorry for the residents who are being severely affected by this.
My thoughts are with the tenants of this building. I recently purchased renters insurance a couple of months ago after twenty two years of living here in NYC. I don't know why it took so long, but due to an influx of crime with robberies and fires and whatnot, I wanted protection in case of an emergency. I hope these people have somewhere to go for now.
We were out on the street while cops dealt with a shooting next door
Might be grease
This is my building. Nobody was hurt. Fire was in New Chinatown and went up the exhaust ducts on the back of the building. Water and smoke damage.
The smoke from this was insane. I'm over on Avenue C between 2nd and 3rd and I woke up in a panic thinking my apartment was full of smoke, I was hacking and coughing. Looked out the window and it was stormy out and I couldn't work out if I was seeing fog or smoke.
