The tree lighting ceremony in Tompkins Square Park takes place on Dec. 11

In case you are calendaring your upcoming holiday events... the holiday tree lighting is on tap for Tompkins Square Park on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 4-5 p.m.

The 31st edition features familiar names: the Carolers of Olde New York from Theater for the New City and music from the Mandel & Lydon Trio ... with refreshments via Veselka and C&B.

You can revisit photos from last year's event right here.

This tree totally kills me.

At least this tree is alive. It’s really
dumb to kill a tree to celebrate the
birthday of somebody that you don’t
even know and have never even met.

I’ve commented before on this but the tree always reminds me of the sorting hat in the Harry Potter movies

Amazing. Even the nicest posts engender the most humbug comments. Never fails.

Are you serious @10:06? Kook. They come from tree farms.
Anyway, this is the day after disgusting Santacon, I'd like to note.

fyi, the tree that was killed for Rockefeller Center this year was approx 75 years old. It WAS a beautiful tree. Rock Center could easily just have a life-size cutout of Jesus for all the giddy tourists to take selfies with and they will enjoy their holiday just as much.

Reminds me of the Charlie Crown Halloween TV special: I GOT A ROCK. The tree is lovely.

Does anyone have intel as to when the 'actual' lighting of the tree is typically, timewise? I can only escape from work for like ten minutes.. thanks for any info!!

I love that this is a living tree planted in 1992 (remembering Glenn Barnett and other lives lost through AIDS), and still growing
