Döner Haus bringing 'real German kebabs' to 14th Street

Signage went up yesterday for Döner Haus, a new quick-serve restaurant at 240 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

Per the restaurant's website (thanks Pinch for the link!): "We do one thing, and do it right: Döner."

Here's more about their "real German kebabs" ... :
Price for a Döner is 9.99 USD! That's it! In Manhattan of all places!

You can pick your choice of protein, such as Chicken, Beef or Vegan.

It usually comes in a bread pocket with fresh red onions, red cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes and two different sauces (garlic and cocktail). Of course, you can select what you like — no onions? No problem.
No word yet on an opening date

Part of this retail space previously belonged to Eddie Huang's Baohaus, which closed in 2020.

I wish them luck but outside of Joes, seems any restaurant that opens on 14th ST is destined to fail.

I wouldn't know a thing about what PornHub's branding looks like (eyeroll emoji)

I called and they said they were opening in about a month.

Döner and kebabs are two different things...
Also, same sandwich costs less at Berlin Döner on McDougall.

What they sell at Berlin Döner is not a real German Döner. (a) you don't cut it all the all the way like a f***ing American sandwich, and (b) anything with Tahini sauce is not a Döner lol

So looking forward to this, and I really hope they'll offer lamb as well. While Kebab originally contained just grilled mutton or lamb, veal came as first variation. It was available as street food in Istanbul not before the 1960s. Only in modern times we got beef, chicken, or even turkey. The use of ground meat instead of grilled, marinated morsels came decades later, in Germany the amount is restricted to 60%, but most prefer grillen piece anyway. Döner (bread) Kebab (grilled meat) is in Germany often just called Döner.

Picayune comments about authenticity aside - sounds different and delish. A refreshing alternative to more pizza, fried chicken, burgers or ramen. Can't wait!
