Wednesday's parting shots

Photos by Steven

As seen today on the west side of First Avenue between 11th Street and 12th Street... workers prepping new tree wells for — new trees!...
You can follow this link to request a street tree on your block.

How come we can’t get trees where there are already long empty plots, like on 10th all along Tompkins? Mud pits year round

I think its wonderful that there are new Trees being planted. Though I am always amazed ( though not surprised ) that the city spends all this money on planting the Trees and then does nothing to protect them such as putting up some sort of fencing to keep the dogs and the thoughtless people who throw their trash around the Tree out~

On my block they dug up existing healthy trees to plant the new. The workers said we get paid to do this … how about planting trees in east NY or the Bronx ? Nah, they’d rather do the easy areas with block committees who plant tulips in tree pits.

They refuse to replace the tree that came down two years ago in front of my building, citing "utilities" -- when there already was a tree there. Baffling.
