After news broke this past week that Angelina Jolie was opening a space from designers and other creators at 57 Great Jones St., artist Adrian Wilson (under his @planndalism account and with an assist from The Lisa Project NYC) paid tribute... adding an unsanctioned giant crown — an iconic symbol seen in Basquiat's work — to the two-level building's exterior...
There was another addition...
Wilson also cleaned the 7-year-old memorial plaque for Basquiat on the building.
Jolie has reportedly said that she will leave the building's exterior as is when she moves her new enterprise into the space.

Keep the wheat paste art going
meh further exploitation of Jean-Michel's legacy
Where's the respect for the architect who designed this building? The EV peanut gallery is incessantly moaning about the so called steel and glass monstrosities that seem to be popping up all over the place but when a genuine example of something that has actual historical significance is defaced there's not a peep out of them.
anything that's not a fancy loft.
If i had the funds of Ms Jolie I would do exactly the same thing.
and @xtc come ON. Who's the architect who designed this super generic 2-story tiny building. And this building has been defaced since day one. What's your point?
@xtc
Hm I think we all respect the architect/designer for this modest 2 story building.
this building has been defaced since probably even before Basquiat, but definitely since.
We should all be glad this building is back to releasing creativy, instead of just being a rich persons lair.
So show the architect some respect by naming him...
This building will always be a shrine to Kelly, Warhol and Basquiat - not your unknown stable boy.
So, is Jolie going to leave it "as is" with the imitation Paul Smith pink? It seems like this was no accident, as if someone heard she had leased it and did this in protest. I hope the interior is amazing because $60,000 a month. yikes.
