Construction watch: 280 E. Houston St.
Here's another in-progress look at 280 E. Houston St., the 12-story mixed-used building growing quickly between Avenue A and Avenue B. (Thanks to Pinch for the heads-up on 280's growth spurt.)
... and here's a look at the most recent rendering...
As we've noted, the new building encompasses 224,809 square feet of space — for residential, commercial and community use. The residential portion will total 211,028 square feet for 157 apartments, per DOB records. The retail section will feature 12,000 square feet, while the community facility is 1,300 square feet.

WOW! This is progress.
Ugliness rules on new construction on East Houston street, well, at least no one will ever mistake it for Paris.
More housing is always good and it looks fine.
Looks like a prison.
Who in their right mind confuses NYC for Paris?
Any affordable housing there?Feel bad for the folks living adjacent and anyone who will have to look at it. It could have been more attractive but the developer doesn’t live here so they’d rather have a couple extra bucks in their pocket than a non-hideous building.
Ah....City needs Congestion Pricing to address congestion.
Then City allows and enables creation of new/more congestion.
7:37: the city needs housing and most of these people won’t drive. Even if they do they are already in Manhattan so that’s not what congestion pricing is focused on.
When will this building be completed?
( When can we get our sidewalk back?)

The building and residents will generate vehicles - repair/service, delivery and no doubt Uber which is a major factor in number of vehicles on the street.
Plus it is situated on a major East-West access street.
More luxury housing for the affluent including pied a terre use....
massive.
