Dreams of a smooth, freshly paved 2nd Avenue will have to wait several days

We got up extra early this morning to check out the freshly paved Second Avenue. The DOT website and posted notices along the milled avenue noted the paving work to take place last night.

As the top photo on 14th Street shows, it looks smooth! Yes!

And then we go one block south to 13th Street ... where the fresh asphalt abruptly stops and the milled roadway picks up...
The posted notices now say Tuesday night/Wednesday morning for presumably more paving — maybe more than a block this time?
And they will come back [in a hopeful, encouraging tone] because they left all the pavers behind...
Not sure what happened with the paving last night. Maybe the city ran out of hot mix asphalt?

Anyway! We walked down the avenue anyway, celebratory celebrations on hold.

Crews did mark the outline all the way to Houston.
To be continued...

Our job is, and only is, to mark the bike lane when we’re told to mark the bike lane.

Ah the fresh smell of asphalt in the morning

How often do they repave?? Feels like they just did this 3-4 years ago. Plus I don’t notice any major pot holes on this street. Contractors make a lot of money on road projects. I spoke to a German lady once and she said for the amount of money YV spends it still looks third world in quality if it’s work.

It did not seem to me that these streets needed repaving. I suspect graft.

The time between repaving the streets and having the lanes painted seems like weeks. In the meantime drivers have no lanes to stay in and they tend to zig zag all over the streets.
It's madness.

It’s madness that the city allowed vehicles to park in the space of the heavily used bike lane during the repacking. It’s a miracle no bicyclists were killed by drivers during this construction project.
