Some shut-eye for Shaky Eyez after multi-agency bust on 14th Street

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

A multi-agency enforcement action took place yesterday at Shaky Eyez, the smoke shop at 402 E. 14th St., just east of First Avenue.

According to legal documents on the door, authorities seized cannabis flower, flavored vapes, cigarettes, and other tobacco products, as well as unlabeled cannabis.

The shop was also cited for unlicensed cannabis processing and its proximity to a house of worship. We're told that one person was arrested.
For now, the shop is padlocked...
... and rather empty...
Shaky Eyez opened over the summer in a storefront that has housed smoke shops in recent years. Signage for the business first appeared in June.

The enforcement action apparently didn’t end sales on this stretch of 14th Street. When we stopped by around 8 last night, people outside the storefront were offering items for sale from a bag and jacket pockets.

Readers have continued to report similar activity outside the shop and along this section of 14th Street. This corridor has seen ongoing complaints about open-air drug sales and quality-of-life issues through the years.

It seems cops are worthless. Come and sell on 11th st. You can do anything here without repercussions.

I feel like this entire character arc could've been predicted from the moment the signage started to go up.

Very similar to the "old days" of the 70s. At the laundromat on 1st Ave. btw'n 9 & St Marks, if you stepped outside while your dryer spun you would be approached multiple times by people selling drugs.

This shop got cited for weed that wasn't tested or labeled the way the law demands. Shops like it have been caught pushing packs with cartoons on them where kids walk by.

Saw it open this afternoon

Those smoke shops bring nothing but trouble. The one down by me on Rivington Street has hoodlums hanging out in front all day and there have been several robberies and shootings by the shop. Legalizing marijuana was one of the biggest mistakes made by the NYS legislature.

The NE corner of St Marks in those days especially

Selling without a license

No, not stepping hard on all the unlicensed places that opened up before permits were issued was the big mistake. It established a black market with all the troubles a black market draws. ("Hoodlums"???)

Laundromat and weed cafe would be great

Oh, at the laundromat on 7th St btw Avenues B and C, you stepped inside to buy the drugs. I actually tried to do my laundry there once.

Its not the cops, who can arrest all theses people, but the non bail law that has the criminals on the street before the police even finish the paperwork.

Wasn't that near the bodega that stocked almost nothing other than soap and party favors?
