Pinc Louds on Astor Place

Local favorites Pinc Louds got booted again from Tompkins Square Park this afternoon (this after being regulars all summer long) ... and so the band ended up performing on Astor Place to a grateful audience...  This is at least the third time that Pinc Louds has been told to leave Tompkins of late... and more and more residents have (we've heard from at least six people about the culprit) are pointing the finger at another local band who regularly plays in the Park ... a band who is jealous of the attention that Pinc Louds are receiving (more proof you never really leave high school)...

Amped up: Bands get the boot from Tompkins Square Park for not having sound permits

A promising triple bill of bands got the boot from Tompkins Square Park last evening.

EVG reader Chris Ryan shared these photos... the three bands (and check them out!), the Employees, Hello Mary and Clovis, arrived to play an amped late-afternoon show without a sound permit.

According to Ryan and several other witnesses, the NYPD and the Parks Enforcement Patrol showed up after while, and eventually shut down the show (they apparently let the bands continue playing for nearly 30 minutes before stopping it)...

Ryan said the officers explained that the bands must have permits to play amplified music. (Ryan offered to put the bands in touch with Chris Flash, who has organized free shows in the Park for years.)

There have been reports of "an intermittent crackdown on amplified performance," as amNY put it, in Tompkins Square Park.

As Ryan said: "Hopefully, this not the end of the resurrection of live music in the Park."

An unplugged (mostly!) version of the Tompkins Square Park Police Riot 32nd Anniversary show was set for this weekend.

There was a full slate of bands, including Spike Polite and Sewage as seen below, and speakers...

Unfortunately, given today's forecast for rain and potential thunderstorms, organizers cancelled Day 2.

Here's a quick look from yesterday via EVG contributor Stacie Joy...

Pinc Louds also performed in the Park last evening... she has been garnering a following this summer in the Park... follow her on Instagram here for upcoming dates.

Here are 2 free shows happening tomorrow (Sunday!)

[Meet the Meetles]

The Meetles are bringing their playlist of classic rock and Motown covers to Tompkins Square Park tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon from 2 to 6. The band's annual concert in the Park was postponed last month when it was like 100000 degrees out.

The band, featuring East Village residents Eric Paulin and Naomi Paulin, will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.

Per their invite: "Bring your kids and pets! Sing along and dance! We hope to see you there!"

The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black in Tompkins Square Park

Late yesterday afternoon, glam-punk performance legends The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, led by East Village-based artist Kembra Pfahler, headlined day two of the Tompkins Square Park Riot Reunion shows.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy was on-hand for the show... as were many other photographers. The band draws a crowd...

Updated:

Several people have asked about the Andy signs the band is wearing. This was a tribute to Andy Kessler, a well-known skateboarder who died on Aug. 10, 2009. He liked to skate in the TF in Tompkins Square Park, which the city wants to cover with synthetic turf.

Collapsing Scenery and Bush Tetras playing free benefit show Friday in Tompkins Square Park

Collapsing Scenery is headlining a free show in Tompkins Square Park on Friday afternoon.

The duo, Don Devore and Reggie Debris, released their latest album, Stress Positions, on June 28. As Brooklyn Vegan described the LP: "It’s quite the gonzo record that mixes post-punk, shoegaze, hip hop, dance music and more into one heady cocktail."

Also on the bill: LES no-wave legends Bush Tetras (who are releasing a new 7-inch single this month) as well as ZAH and Nymph. The show is scheduled from 2-6 p.m.

The show is also a benefit for Avenues For Justice, formerly the Andrew Glover Youth Program, around the corner from the Park on Avenue B. As amNY recently put it, Avenues for Justice is "a court advocacy program dedicated to rescuing New Yorkers in their teens and early 20s from the soul-crushing spiral of incarceration."

Puke Island returns to Tompkins Square Park

The ninth annual Puke Island takes place this afternoon (Sunday, June 9) in Tompkins Square Park.

Per the invite:

As many of you know, the first Punk Island was complete and utter chaos, and 100% free expression. A badly organized bolt from the blue. Without going into detail, it's gotten way TOO organized for a lot of people.

PUKE ISLAND carries in its original spirit, allowing us to bask in what it used to be. PUKE ISLAND is not affiliated with Make Music New York, ABC No Rio, or Anyone else.
In cahoots with the SHADOW underground newspaper.

The bands will be:

2 — Room Full of Killers
2:40 — Necrotic Society
3:30 — Patterns of Decay
4:20 — False Gods
5 — Eye of the Destroyer
