Now and then: 10th Street and Avenue A

At Flickr, rollingrck has a great set of old East Village postcards, including this undated shot of 10th Street and Avenue A...



I tried to line it up to compare to today's corner...

The biggest changes I can see are in the road: modes of transport, numbers of pedestrians. The tree in the lower left looks exactly the same: could it be the same tree, maxed out at that height for a century?

The address-today-is 288 east 10th street.

Viewing the history here gives some idea of when the photo was taken (1884 to 1911).
