The marriage contract is a pretty unromantic convention to begin with; exhibitionist public proposals always make me think these couples must be kinda bored with each other-- like they require an audience as a reminder that they're in love ("See, even that wino got all misty-- irrefutable proof that we're in love! And, think of how much dead space we can fill by recounting the way-out "creative" proposal to friends and relatives!")
