Joe's Bar is closed, but why — and for how long?
Uh-oh. Joe's on East Sixth Street between Avenue A and B is closed. No note out front with any explanation. I called the bar. The number is "not in service."
The bar was closed in October 2009 for one week in what an insider called "an insurance snafu." However, the phone wasn't disconnected when that happened.
We hope that this is all just temporary. The last thing we need is the loss of another good neighborhood bar ...

Oh no... Let's hope it's nothing serious. I live on this block and walk past the bar frequently; its patrons are so well-behaved and respectful, when compared to people who hang out in front of 'classy' establishments like Ace bar. I would hate to see another Ace bar type of place move in here.
Hopefully, like Lucy's, they're just on vacation. I just discovered Joe's this year and I really like it. They have a great jukebox too.
Great bar. Stay open Joe's! Marty when they reopen let's do a post-Chillmaster night here man.
Oh no, this is one of my favorite quiet spots...I hope being 'quiet' hasn't come at a price.
Nice article, thanks for the information.
@Shawn Chittle: Sounds like a plan, my friend!
Best bar in the East Village. This would be tragic.
I live across the street and Joe's looks open today. Huzzah!

That's good news. Thanks.
Maybe they were just randomly closed for a day. The fact that their number was "not in service" gave me the fear. Perhaps they simply have a new number...
Nice bar but I hate the tiny beer mugs.
