Life Cafe closed on Sept. 11, as we first reported...
As Kathy Life said at the time:
"I'm doing this due to issues around building repairs the landlords were supposedly going to complete one year ago."
And not much has been happening here of late... the necessary renovations don't seem to be happening... (there aren't any permits on file to indicate any starting soon...) We noticed that a light was on inside, and we took a look ...
We've talked with several people who don't think that Life will ever return to 10th Street and Avenue B...

Oh, man. Another one bites the dust. The place is dead as fried chicken. What a loss. They had the best Bloody Mary. What's next, I'm gonna wake up one day and Yaffa is boarded up, with a sign exclaiming "future home of Sonic?"
Local business owners need to get their heads out of their asses, band together under some catchilly named group and flex a little muscle to get local officials to give a shit that little by little we are being transformed into New Jersey. Did someone say Historic Business Preservation District? Sorry, that's only for rich folks on the East End of LI who don't like shitty chains. Guess we're gonna get stuck with a McFlurry of crap.
the neighborhood isnt the same without them. so sad. so many memories. so wrong. i really miss them there and it's not right what that landlord did. what is the landlord's name anyway?
@ glamma
It's rather complicated. Life "spans a space belonging to two different buildings with two different landlords whose dispute over the price of the work contract has prevented construction from starting," according to The Villager.
This hurts.
the problem with commercial rent control is that nobody in power wants it.
the state says the city has to pass "enabling legislation" and the city says the state has to.
there have been several small business organizations down here, at least two of them that actually had small businesses involved.
everybody lost heart and hope.
it is a simple issue with huge complications.
This breaks my heart big time.
