We looked at the site last evening... Workers put up barriers on the north side of East 13th Street, putting an end to any parking along here for the foreseeable future...
We exchanged emails with a few residents who live facing the lot... and they each used either "nightmare" or "nightmarish" to describe the impending construction...
Meanwhile, EVG reader Katja shared photos from the beginning and end of the first day of construction...

They certainly aren't wasting anytime, 7am sharp they got started again this morning.
7 AM is the standard starting time for construction projects. Until the building is completed be prepared for it. Keep an eye on posted permits for "after hours" construction which allows for late afternoon, evening or weekend work.
The loss of parking means once again the tax payers are subsidizing this work - basically the city permits them the parking space for a small fee that in no way equals what that space would have grossed if under normal parking rates. The increased tax collections on all these new apts doesn't seem to be trickling down to the neighborhood, but NYPD sure gets all the machine guns it wants, right?
after-hours-construction *drops dead*...Good Lord, help us! Watch out for rotten salad, cow shit and century eggs hitting the "fan"!

So much for those dreams of making this a garden or park. I was really enjoying the recent greenery.
