Breaking! (Sort of!): Here come the bike-share docking stations

EVG reader Rob notes the arrival this morning of more self-service docking stations for the city's bike-share program... stored for now under the Williamsburg Bridge...

...they'll be coming soon to a sidewalk near you...

Previously on EV Grieve:
Here are your East Village bike share locations, probably

Report: Citi Bike share back on track for a May debut, probably definitely

The East Village is in the 1st rollout phase of the bike-share program this May, probably for sure

Hurrah. More bikes good. Less cars good. Yay for transportation options.

Herds of tourists and yuppies.

I like the idea of more bikes but how goofy is this. If you are cool and you live here just buy yourself an old beater bike, lock it up outside and be done with it. Better to ride an old jalopy that fits you, that you are accustomed to rather than ride one of these clunky dopey corporate versions of a bicycle.

Looks like a good place to barf...

Okay, yeah, you're right, eff the "yuppie" bikes and let's just put in some more limo stands and parking garages, because they're more authentically New York or something. Jesus, this is why we can't have nice things in this town

When I looked at the map yesterday and saw that there'll be a station literally right downstairs within steps to my building, I thought that maybe, just MAYBE, that I might sign up and check it out. But thank God, simple mathematics brought me back to reality again. Phew!

So stay in school kids!

I'm not particularly cool, did just what you suggested and had my bike stolen. Is it because I'm not cool that it didn't work out for me? Any more suggestions?

What Kurt said. I've been through too many bikes to count. Or if not entire bikes, then bike parts. And "beater bikes" around here cost around $150 for anything rideable. Hardly "beater" pricing when you have to keep buying parts and/or new bikes, not to mention the $75 chain.
