The first nice Sunday of 1987 in the East Village
Spotted this over at the always-interesting Flaming Pablum and wanted to share it here… It's a video from Nelson Sullivan titled "The first nice Sunday of 1987 in the East Village."
We've posted some of Nelson's videos from this era before, like here … and here.
A commenter at Flaming Pablum noted that Sullivan's archive is now at the Fales Library at NYU.
Sullivan died of a heart attack on July 4, 1989.

so i was born in 1987... and i live on that same block now.
So awesome. I was 16 and have vague memories of this East Village. Watching this video and thinking ' Yes, that place really did exist. I didn't just dream it up!' More interesting than what you see is what you don't see. Might be fun to make a list .

Williamsburg is more sterile than the today's EV they just cover it up in a different package.
That was the year that I moved intto the East Village -- love this.
And that wasn't just "Coffee Shop" -- it was LESHKO's Coffee Shop. Shortly after I arrived in the EV, I remember a radical makeover taking place at Leshko's (post-modern chic) but it wasn't enough to survive.......at least not as Leshkos.
