1st signs of activity at Alex Stupak's incoming restaurant on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place
Several readers noticed workers inside the former Sushi Lounge space on Friday … not much activity according to EVG reader Russ, but the first sign of life for the new restaurant that Alex (Empellón Cocina, Empellón Taqueria) Stupak plans to open here on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place …
Otherwise, the corner remains the same this summer.

Stupak told Eater in March that he plans on having a small facility here at 132 St. Mark's Place to make tortillas for his restaurants.

Is it just me or is the East Village loosing a lot of Sushi restaurants lately? I guess "theme" restaurants are better?
Ahhhhh! There's the wonderful East Village that I know and love. Like kisses from Mommy.
I'm really hoping to be able to buy fresh tortillas from there.
'Love the juxtaposition of the guy on the ground and the pizza box. He looks like he ate the whole pie after downing a fifth and is just like I'm out.
D
Here's what I wanna know:
Which picture is actually first? Did that guy move the pizza box from the upper sidewalk to the trash pile? Or from the trash pile to the sidewalk?

Good question! The top is from Friday morning, the second photo is from yesterday morning!
Hoping this opens soon. The transients who hang in front of all the the empty storefronts on this block are pretty unpleasant.
And before someone says it, obviously not as unpleasant as actually being homeless.
I don't think I would like to live where drunks and skanks were passed out on the sidewalks.. with graffiti and trash all over...
why? I can see that the powers feels a good hosing will fix some of EV's problems.
