Ruffian Wine Bar signage arrives on East 7th Street
The Ruffian Wine Bar sign is up now in the window at 125 E. Seventh St., in the storefronts between Butter Lane and Big Gay Ice Cream.
As the name implies, a wine bar/cafe is in the works for the small space that previously housed Oaxaca Taqueria here between Avenue A and First Avenue.
Ruffian has an active Instagram account showing renovation progress ... (the website is still partially under construction).
Owner and sommelier Patrick Cornet has worked as GM and beverage director at Lelabar on Hudson Street ... as well as wine director at Resto on East 29th Street.
This will be the second new wine bar right along this stretch of East Seventh Street... Virgola, the Greenwich Village-based oyster-and-wine cafe, is due soon at No. 111.

I know a wine bar will most likely not have drunk clients staggering and vomiting on the sidewalk at 2 am but the fact that yet another storefront in the EV has been rented to sell more alcohol is depressing. Our neighborhood has become a monoculture of drinking establishments.
ruffian: a brutal person; bully; a violent and cruel person
or: bros, newbies, Wall Street financiers, hipsters; B&Ters -- pretty much the demographics of the new EV.
fitting for its target customers
Nothing says Seventh Street like lamb with fermented lentil bread huitlacoche and an amusing Sicilian Suscaru 2014!
FYI EVGrieve: I hear that Virgola is officially opening today. Looking forward to wine and oysters in an elegant location on East 7th Street.
Who isn't, Raven? Wine and oysters in an elegant location is so Seventh St.
Just looked at the website and saw they seem to have named this place after the American champion thoroughbred racehorse Ruffian, who died a truly horrible death at Belmont in 1975 at the ripe old age of 3...
