As previously noted, local astronomy buff Felton Davis was out at his usual spot on Second Avenue and East Third Street this morning ...

Today's event was the rare transit of Mercury across the face of the sun...EVG regular jdx shared these photos... Felton used a very thick filter to reduce the bright light of the sun for safe viewing...

This is so cool. Heard someone on the news this morning who remarked that it can be seen from most of the world, this shared experience a good reminder that we're all part of the same species, living our lives on the same planet.
Thanks for this! I wish I'd known in advance; I'd have walked by and had a look.
Thank you for the beautiful views this morning.
Really awe inspiring.
Kept thinking of the Danny Boyle movie SUNSHINE
just a enormous (1,000,000 miles in diameter!) ball of fire and a comparatively tiny world!
Thank you !
Avoiding the Geminis and Virgos, 'cause girl, Mercury is in retrograde, uh-huh, you know it *snaps fingers in air*.
so glad this guy exists; thank you!!!!!
I watched it on my laptop, and now my laptop is blinded.
