EVG reader Dennis noted yesterday that a USPS mailbox has returned to Avenue A and Ninth Street.
The box had been gone for more than a year (or longer?) after sidewalk work started along Ninth Street. As Dennis said, it was previously anchored on Ninth Street off the Avenue A corner near the M8 stop. It is now on Avenue A a little north of Ninth Street near GelArto. (Speaking of GelArto, the DOH temporarily closed them yesterday.)
And Dennis checked: Pickups at this mailbox are 1 p.m. weekdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays.

I am still waiting for Rosie Mendez to get a label with pick up hours put on the box at Broadway and East 10th Street (south-west corner). Perhaps she is too busy negotiating her next job to care about constituent services. A call from her office to the post office at Fourth and 11th Streets should have gotten the sticker weeks and weeks ago. How ineffective she is.
What does the city council have to do with the USPS? Have you tried our local Congresscritter's office?
Does anyone know why the Gelato closed? They were very nice and the place seemed very clean.
Icon Realty demolition in the apartment upstairs from them maybe; but it was all brand new construction.
There used to be a mail box at the NW corner of Houston/1st St. and Avenue A. Of course with the never ending work on Houston it went away. It would be nice if it were to return. I wonder who to contact?
