The NYPD was spotted at Caffé Bene this morning on Avenue A at 13th Street.
As the above photo by EVG regular Lola Saénz shows, the burglars — said to be wearing ponchos, masks and thick gloves — smashed part of the front glass door and made off with the shop's e-bikes.
There has been
a reported rise in commercial burglaries in the past two months during the COVID-19 pause.

Another cafe further down Ave A had their cash register stolen early morning yesterday.
M&J, the Asian restaurant on Ave B and 14th Street, same deal, glass door smashed and their delivery E-Bikes were stolen.
ugh, this is awful news -- all for e-bikes, give me a break. Hopefully they didn't make out with too much, stay strong Caffe Bene staff
I've noticed e-bikes in the windows and this old LES guy thought "that's not good". Inevitable as, even in this 21st century bro wonderland, the streets are too gloriously empty late night.
I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come, as more people get more desperate, without jobs or other resources.
If security camera footage is available, they should publish it.
Excellent Idea!

Really? When we are in the midst of a pandemic causing loss of lives and businesses? Losers. Get a life.
Considering the Congress just stole 3 trillion dollars from the future, your anger might be better applied.
Oh, the future. Save for a rainy day, right? Guess what it's raining. In fact, it's pouring. Stole 3 trillion from the future. Spit. I hate the GOP.
