With the news that Odessa is closing Sunday on Avenue A, several readers asked about the status of another local diner serving like-minded fare — Little Poland.
The diner, which opened in 1985 at 200 Second Ave. between 12th Street and 13th Street, has been dark since the COVID-19 PAUSE went into effect in March... the space remains temporarily closed for now...
But in a hopeful sign, there is a note on the door prompting potential customers to monitor their Instagram account for reopening updates...
It's also a hopeful sign that Little Poland actually has an Instagram account, launched last fall. Odessa never embraced social media.

I remember when it was Bruno's, named after the then-owner, a big, bushy-haired, loud, obnoxious and incredibly rude guy who made eating there something to be endured rather than enjoyed. What a relief it was when he sold it and it became the little gem that is has been since - and hopefully will be again soon.
This is such a wonderful little spot. I'd get delivery from them during the weekdays and it was the most affordable, home-made comfort in this part of the EV. And their delivery person would be so kind and always brightened my day. They play such an important role in the neighborhood and I hope that they open as soon as safety permits and are flooded w/ the customers they deserve.
I wouldn't feel bad for the owner of Odessa.He ran his business and owns the building. Maybe now he can retire anf teturn to Greece

Here's hoping Little Poland holds out. It's one of the best restaurants in the whole neighborhood -- great food, good prices, nice staff, you can't beat it

Incorrect. If you read the article about Odessa, it talks about Dennis retiring, not the building owner.
I miss Teresa, on 1st Ave & 5th St. That was the best polish restaurant in the neighborhood.
Little Poland has the best potato pancakes and their pierogies are great too. After Christine’s closed down, and then after Neptune Diner closed down, Little Poland became the place to get your potato pancake and pierogi fix. They also have some pretty amazing soups.
The advantage that Neptune had over the rest was the back yard garden which was a relaxing place to eat in warm weather. Little Poland is much more cramped but it’s very homey, especially on a cold winter night. I really hope they reopen.
I agree about Teresa's, it was the best of all of them.
I remember the abrasive Bruno also. He was out of control.
