As previously reported, the building's landlord — a Housing Development Fund Corporation — is looking to increase the rent from $1,350 to, eventually, $6,750, a number that the current owner Luis Rivera, the son of founder Adela Fargas, says is not feasible.
Rent negotiations are underway, though the two sides haven't reached an agreement, said Frank Gonzalez of Loisaida Realty, who helped organize the Save Casa Adela Committee.
Adela Fargas started serving her Puerto Rican cuisine here in 1976. She died in January 2018 at age 81.

Love Casa Adela. The $1350 rent explains the unusual value that they have been able to provide. But that amount is a steal. How about 4200 per month?
Times have changed. Landlord has a right to make money too.
weird seeing people support the parasites that destroyed this city1 Viva Casa Adela!
Landlord doesn't even make money out of this, renting commercial space for market rate is intended to cover the building's expenses.
The landlords already make too much money. What are you on about? You think 3600 for a studio apartment for a born and raised new york citizen is a right? Apartments used to be 100-300 just in the 90's-2k's. Take your sorry butt back to Wisconsin.
How about just leave it the way it is, since they've been there so long?
I hope they can come to an agreement. It's not really fair to ask a building to never change their rent because the city, state, and feds raise taxes all the time. Buildings also get older and need repairs: roof, boiler, plumbing.
But their city tax looks to be about $44,000 per year which if you have 20-24 units is affordable (~2k/unit/year). Gauging from the comments over on the Dec 1 Village Sun article the shareholders aren't getting along. If you're in a coop stay involved in your board, stay community focused, and use your shares and vote!
so the landlord is a coop board not evil corp? shaking my head, hope they settle on slight increases over a 5-10 year period 1350 is low and if this is a coop it can't operate above a very marginal profit so monthly's do have to go up to cover costs but 6700 is way way outta line seems punitive Long May Casa Adela Remain!
I think the landlord should be able to make his money the same way the restaurant makes their money too.. should go both ways!!
