Per Car & Driver:
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), catalytic converter theft has spiked dramatically due to three precious metals found inside them: palladium, rhodium, and platinum. How precious are we talking about here? At the time of this writing, an ounce of rhodium costs about $15,000.

Yet another cost of the government's pushing people towards electric cars. Did you know Al Gore made $160 million dollars when his tiny unknown green energy company was sold to a government organization? And then he disappeared from the world stage for the most part.
Literally nobody is in charge of this city...
i got mine stolen when i parked next to the park a month ago. class act. a week lated my bike got stolen. and now con-edison is saying they forgot to charge me for 3 years of gas (at todays price). ive lived here 25 years and have never felt so abused.
Electric cars don't use/need catalytic converters.
This is a huge problem all over the country
The Toyota Prius is particularly open to this type of theft because of easy assess to the part.
