Workers are busy restocking the shelves at the fully renovated Essex Card Shop, which was gutted by a fire in early January at 47 Avenue A.
Owner Muhammad Aslam (below) provided EVG contributor Stacie Joy with an interior update the other day. He said he will be open before Sept.1, and he is looking toward mid-to-end of August.
As of late last week, he was waiting on several items, including a new ATM, FedEx system and store signage...
You can check out our previous posts on Essex Card Shop, located in the retail space of the Ageloff Towers between Third Street and Fourth Street, for more background on what has transpired to date. Supporters of Essex Card Shop have helped it raise more than $91,000 in a GoFundMe campaign.

I can hardly wait! I'm so happy to se these guys bounce back.
The store looks great so far. Just in time for back-to-school.
Thanks Ms. Joy for the update!
This is honestly great news! Very happy they'll be back in time for return-to-school!
I love how it has the vibe of the old store, complete with wall-covered rack panels.
We missed you.
Welcome back-see you soon.
Again thanks for being in our great neighborhood!

As previously reported, a 13 year old was arrested and charged with second-degree arson. Being a minor, a judge sealed the records.
Hurray!!! We have missed this fine store and owners in our community.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve needed this store in the past few months. Glad to know they’re almost open again :)
So glad!!
I am so happy they can reopen. I can't wait to stop by and spend some money!
This is wonderful news. Probably hell to have had to do all the work, but I bet it will result in increased business. Definitely gonna stop by for some rainbow glue sticks! (The best and only glue stick that works and Essex is the ONLY place that sells them!)
We missed you! So happy you are back!!!!!
The best of the best!!! Welcome home Essex Card Shop!!!
Those hard-cover bright blue notebooks with lined pages! :)
