Here's a day 2 work-in-progress look at Posse in Effect featuring the Beastie Boys, a new mural going up on the SW corner of 14th Street and Avenue A (on the east-facing wall of 436 E. 14th St.).
Shepard Fairey, in collaboration with the Lisa Project NYC, is working on the wall... from a photo by East Village-based photographer Glen E. Friedman. The work is part of the ongoing celebration of 50 years of hip hop.
Fairey, the Lisa Project and Friedman last joined forces on the Bad Brains mural last December on Bleecker at the Bowery.

real estate developers love shep and his ilk putting up "hip" art on buildings many or maybe most artists couldn't even dream of affording to live in way to go! hows bout adding a more affordable housing now tag, geesh rich kids and their hero's i guess BB used to kinda sorta stand for something it's a bit heart breaking to see them used to promote/hipify the hyper gentrification we're going through
I've enjoyed coming across the 50 Years of HipHop murals across NYC.
And people have been talking about "hyper-gentrification" in the neighborhood for 40+ years now.
This is cool, I'm always happy to have a bland building turned into a mural. I'm especially delighted when the mural features artist who cut their teeth in our neighborhood. Bravo!
It takes a true EVGrump to complain about a freshly painted mural! You can please some of the people none of the time, and all of the EVGrumps fit squarely in that category.
that corner needed something to brighten it up!!
public art contributes to all of society and that's a really good thing!!
Question is will it be tagged or will respect be shown?
