Starting today (Saturday!), miles of NYC roadways will be closed to vehicles so that people can run, walk, and bike — and not on the sidewalk.
As in previous years, this car-free zone includes Lafayette, Astor Place and Fourth Avenue from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
You can find more details about Summer Streets at this link, including the sponsors, free samples and free exercise classes on Astor Place.

The City of NY touts Summer Streets as "car-free" - but never acknowledges that Summer Streets also means complete chaos and lack of essential bus Mass Transit.
Summer Streets has been expanded this year and so there will be almost no bus service on parts of the West Side and Harlem. (Reminder: biggest demographic for buses are elderly, women, POC)
Actually Summer Streets is basically recreation for bicyclists - not as many runners or walkers.
And good luck to pedestrians who need to cross the street - bicyclists mostly won't stop.
Basically bicyclists are permitted to "trump" bus users.
Hmmm....
I just walked on Lafayette Street, and it was quite chaotic as the bicycles have taken over the middle lanes of the street with just two narrow lanes set aside for pedestrians on the sides of the street next to the sidewalk which bicyclists were regularly riding on because of the bicycle congestion on the bike lanes. I saw several collisions caused by bicyclists coming from the side streets and attempting to cross Lafayette Street but none of the bicyclists would give way, so they were colliding into each other.
