Cowabunga, dude: Teenage Mutant Turtles are (temporarily) moving into this EV space

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

The former Swiss Institute space on the southeast corner of Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place is getting a temporary tenant this weekend — with some mutant turtles moving in.

Paramount is bringing its "World of TMNT" promotion to 130 Second Ave. as part of New York Comic Con weekend.

The Splinter and Sons Bodega pop-up runs Friday through Sunday, starting at noon each day. Visitors can play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games, take part in photo ops and pick up exclusive merch, etc.
As previously reported, the nonprofit contemporary art institution closed its East Village space on July 5 after eight years, ahead of a move to a new home on the Bowery.
In August, leasing materials for the two-level, 7,200-square-foot space advertised "all uses considered."

Maybe that includes becoming a perpetual pop-up space.

if they stay off the roof and don't make any outside the building noise this is at least short duration and come on it's the Ninja Turtles! which could explain the man hole pop outs of late gonna be lots more nerds in the hood this weekend which i welcome over the usual chode bros ( and yea F**K Icon Realty )

What with all the "pop ups" and touristy themed base venue's, the East Village is slowly resembling those trashy Times Square stores from the pre-Disney days. .

What should we expect next? Those junky souvenir shops that have the "Going Out of Business - Everything On Sale" banners in the window?

You mean I Con Realty Mgmt owns the building? (Hey kids fyi they were explicitly targeted by the Stabilizing NYC coalition for predatory equity and rampant tenant harassment. Their track record is so notoriously bad that the NY AG had to step in with a major settlement to force them to stop harassing tenants, halt unpermitted work, and fix hundreds of severe building violations like cutting off heat and creating dangerous construction dust. They aren't just bad landlords; they destroy communities. Look it up here on our beloved EVG. Their. coverage saved a lot of people's sanity and apartments back before some (mildly) better laws came about. We love local hero EVGrieve.)

Great! Better than another pot/smoke shop.

The last TMNT movie was actually super-charming, even if unmistakably a movie for younger teens. Great art style.
