A new home on an avenue for East Village gallery-bookstore Ed. Varie

Ed. Varie (short for Edition Varie), a creative space that has hosted exhibits, book openings and other special events for the past nearly 15 years, is moving into a new home at 95 Avenue B.

The larger space is right around the corner from their previous home at 184 E. Seventh St. (Artist-curator Karen Schaupeter launched Ed. Varie in 2009.)

Per a recent Instagram post...

Our new home will allow us to revive and regenerate past programs that had been squeezed into such small spaces, they began bordering on non-existence.

Our new home will allow us to embrace and embark on all of the projects we put on the illusive back burner for the past 7 years.

Our new home will allow us to conjure and collaborate with our broad and growing community of artists, aligning with our mission to nurture the exploration of new concepts in artistic practice.

Ed. Varie will debut No. 95 on Thursday (4/20) with the ninth annual Pot Shop and Potluck from 6-9 p.m. here between Sixth Street and Seventh Street. 

And coming to Ed. Varie on weekends in May...

Pop-up gallery at 95 Avenue B through March 21

The recently renovated space at 95 Avenue B between East Seventh Street and East Sixth Street will be home to the Mary Sky pop-up gallery through March 21.

The show here is titled Online Resource... here's more about it via the Vermont-based Mary Sky website:

Online Resource is an exhibition existing in both web and live formats, the first of its kind. The web exhibition is permanently on view at the portal below and onlineresource.co.uk

A wholly unique exhibition will be on view in the gallery for ten days only. The gallery show features "gifs brought to life" in paint and multimedia.

The opening was last night (sorry!) ... the exhibit officially opens today...

Gallery Open Hours: March 12-21, 11 am-9 pm
Artist Talk: Sunday March 13, 3 pm-4 pm

As we understand it, the space here is still for lease. The building went through a gut renovation last year. Part of the building was formerly home to Tu Casa, the recording studio that had been around since 1972.

Construction watch: 95 Avenue B

Just checking in on the gut-renovation progress at 95 Avenue B near East Sixth Street... the scaffolding and construction netting recently came down...



The ground-floor (and basement) remains on the rental market. Here's how it's being pitched via Suzan Penzner:

Part of the building was formerly home to Tu Casa, the recording studio that had been around since 1972. A lengthy list of musicians have played here through the years, including Butch Morris, Black Flag, the Bush Tetras, Dee Dee Ramone and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, to randomly name a few.
