On Sunday, we noted that Michael "Bao" Huynh's Baoguette Cafe on St. Mark's Place near Second Avenue looked rather closed... and in some disarray. A sign out front said that they'd be closed for a couple of hours... They are still closed.
Huynh seems to go through quite a few concepts, such as DOB 111 and Barbao on St. Mark's Place... which came and went... and BaoBQ on First Avenue, which closed last month.
Updated 9-4 12:15 — Eater gets confirmation that Huynh has closed this location.

Updated: Baoguette Cafe looks rather closed
Over on St. Mark's Place, Michael "Bao" Huynh's Baoguette Cafe near Second Avenue looks rather permanently closed...
However, there is a sign...
Which doesn't exactly explain why the inside looks as if the place was ransacked...
The DOH temporarily closed the Cafe back on the spring... Meanwhile, BaoBQ closed on First Avenue a few weeks ago.
Bao is opening a new restaurant on Greenwich Avenue and says that he is moving back to Vietnam at some point in the future... via Eater ... and Gael Greene.

Baoguette Cafe back open on St. Mark's Place
Last Wednesday, the DOH temporarily closed Baoguette Cafe on St. Mark's Place with 80 violation points... Anyway, just a quick note (post?) to say that they are back open... (The DOH website didn't have the Baoguette entry updated just yet...)

City temporarily closes Baoguette on St. Mark's Place
Yesterday, Baoguette Cafe on St. Mark's Place was closed... workers were cleaning up the place...

Now with the gates down, you can spot the DOH stickers...
A handwritten sign says "Sorry we are closed. Need to renew expired permit tomorrow! Hope to open tomorrow."
The expiration date on the document is April 30, 2012.
However, there's more to it than a simple expired permit. According to the DOH website, Baoguette was hit with 80 violation points during an inspection, including evidence of various live things.
Meanwhile, we spotted this under the Baoguette sign out front.. a reminder of the former tenant... Ah, Bamn! (And their website is still live!)

Baoguette continues to keep the Bamn! memories alive
Wow, it has been a little more than one year since Bamn!, the garish automat on St. Mark's Place closed... The location is now a Baoguette ... and we just want to salute Michael Hunynh's gang for keeping the Bamn! spirit alive by never covering up its old sign...
And quickly, yet another salute to the EV eateries who continue to honor those restaurants that came before them...
Such as Hea to Friend House on Third Avenue...
... and Wally's Pacific Catch to Marfa on East Second Street...
