Sanshi Rice Noodle coming to 2nd Avenue and 7th Street
There's a new restaurant tenant for the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Seventh Street... signage arrived on Friday for Sanshi Rice Noodle...
We don't have any information about the restaurant at the moment.
This prime corner space has been vacant since Bar Virage closed in December 2018 after 20-plus years in business. Ravi DeRossi had designs on a vegan diner here, though those plans didn't get past the Community Board stage.

No Dollface for the former Bar Virage space on 2nd Avenue
Dollface, Ravi DeRossi's vegan-diner concept, will have to find a home elsewhere.
A for-rent sign now hangs at the former Bar Virage on Second Avenue at Seventh Street.
Back in February, DeRossi appeared before Community Board 3 for a full liquor license for the space. However, CB3 issued a denial, citing among other reasons, its proximity to Middle Collegiate Church on Second Avenue between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.
But didn't Bar Virage have a full liquor license? Yes. Per the CB3 minutes from February:
Community Board 3 does not know whether a determination was made by the SLA about this house of worship when the previous applicant was considered for a full on-premises liquor license but believes that a full on-premises liquor should not now be approved within the proximity of this location to a longstanding house of worship in this community...
The minutes note, too, that "this applicant has also failed to submit any indication of its outreach to the community or support by the community for this application through petition signatures or other means."
In an email on Saturday, DeRossi confirmed that he will be looking for another spot for Dollface in the East Village.
Bar Virage closed in late December after 20-plus years in business. No reason was cited for the closure.

Bar Virage has closed on 2nd Avenue
Bar Virage, the corner bistro with a popular sidewalk cafe on Second Avenue at Seventh Street, closed Sunday after service... bringing an end to its 20-some years in business. (H/T Rhonda!)
This photo by Steven last night shows that the dining room has been emptied out...
No word on why the restaurant closed. (We did spot a retail listing for the address dating back to September 2017, last updated in April. The space appears of be off-market now.)
A sign on the front door thanks patrons...
The space went under a renovation in 2014, switching from Virage to Bar Virage (featuring an expanded bar area) ... there was another renovation in 2010.

Bar Virage reopens Thursday with a new menu
If you walked by Bar Virage on Second Avenue and East Seventh Street the past two days, then you may have noticed the place is closed… just until Thursday as they prepare for the launch of their new menu. (Bar Virage describes their current menu as "French/Italian/Middle Eastern" influenced.)
They offered a sneak preview of one dish via Instagram…

Virage changed its name to Bar Virage in the spring of 2014 as part of a larger transformation, which included a remodeled dining room and new menu items.

Virage is now Bar Virage, which reopened last night
The retooled Virage reopened last night at Second Avenue and East Seventh Street. As you can see the place is now called Bar Virage… to match the name, the space now has a more bar-centric feel — the 20-plus-seat bar is now in the middle of the former dining room …

And there are changes on Virage's menu as well. While several of the restaurant's Middle-Eastern options (hummus, chicken kebab, etc.) remain, there are expanded offerings … such as lamb sliders with goat cheese, arugula and tomato served alongside fries ($14) and Medi tacos with homemade laffa bread and featuring chicken shawarma, shrimp or skirt steak ($12). The new menus are not online just yet.
The 14-year-old Virage closed for renovations on March 24, as we first reported.
