Fiaschetteria Pistoia returns to service after December fire

Fiaschetteria Pistoia is back open after a late-night fire on Dec. 23 put the Tuscan-style restaurant out of commission.

More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze. (A cause has not been revealed.) There weren't any reports of injuries, though parts of the kitchen and dining room at Fiaschetteria Pistoia, which debuted in 2017, were damaged.

Fiaschetteria Pistoia also opened a new outpost at 114 Christopher St., near Bedford Street, at the beginning of January.

Virginia's reopens after December fire next door

A late-night fire on Dec. 23 temporarily put two restaurants — Fiaschetteria Pistoia and Virginia'sout of commission here on 11th Street near Avenue C.

Vinny & O, who shared the photos on this post, reported that Virginia's reopened this past Friday night for the first time since the fire, which started next door at Fiaschetteria Pistoia.

Meanwhile, Fiaschetteria Pistoia remains closed (they were originally hoping to reopen last month).

More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze. (A cause has not been revealed.) There weren't any reports of injuries, though parts of the kitchen and dining room at Fiaschetteria Pistoia, which debuted in 2017, were damaged.

The sign on the door notes: "Unfortunately, because of a fire, we will be closed for renovations for a bit more time."

Fans of Fiaschetteria Pistoia's Tuscan-style food can still visit their new outpost at 114 Christopher St., near Bedford Street that opened in the beginning of January.

After fire, Fiaschetteria Pistoia closed until January

A late-night fire on Dec. 23 has put Fiaschetteria Pistoia out of commission until at least next month.

A sign arrived on the Italian restaurant's door on 11th Street at Avenue C... noting a closure for renovations.

FDNY officials said that the fire's cause is under investigation. There weren't any reports of injuries.

The restaurant opened in early 2017 via Emanuele Bugiani, whose family owns Fiaschetteria La Pace in Pistoia, a trattoria 30 kilometers northwest of Florence, per Eater.

A quick look at Fiaschetteria Pistoia on 11th Street

[EVG photo from March]

Been meaning to note the arrival (in early February!) of Fiaschetteria Pistoia, which serves Tuscan cuisine at 647 E. 11th St. near Avenue C.

Now seems like a good time. Yesterday, Eater critic Robert Sietsema gave it very positive notices. As he notes, "this improbably located spot was founded by Emanuele Bugiani, whose family owns Fiaschetteria La Pace in Pistoia, a trattoria 30 kilometers northwest of Florence."

A few excerpts:

The most purely Tuscan pasta is a broad noodle here called by its generic name of maccheroni in a chunky wild-boar sauce. All are quite fantastic...

And!

The décor at this restaurant might be termed East Village rustic, including the usual rickety tables, tin ceilings, and crumbling walls, forming the local equivalent, I suppose, of a rural osteria in the Tuscan countryside. Posters of canned food products dating from the 60s adorn the walls, perhaps the work of some Italian Andy Warhol. In the back corner is a pasta-making machine, and one of the cooks frequently steps out of the kitchen to tend it, making pastas that, if not all Tuscan, are uniformly delicious.

You can never go wrong with a classic Tuscan dish: Spaghetti Chitarra with Pomarola. #FiaschetteriaPistoia
