As you may have already read ... some XOXO models have been camping out the last few weeks in an empty storefront on Fifth Avenue at 38th Street... and the models seem to be causing a sensation....
I came across the scene earlier in the week...a scene that was both hilarious and horrorfying...First, you put two models in a window who prance about in bra and panties and seductively brush each other's hair...then you hire a security guard to yell "keep moving -- you can't stand here on the sidewalk" over and over. Like we're really going to move.
And all this is on the other side of the street from the decking-the-halls holiday windows at Lord & Taylor. So there are a lot of tourists who are shocked -- shocked! -- at all this. One mom said to her twentysomething daughter, "You'd never see this back in [Elk Snout, Pigsknuckle -- didn't catch the name of the town]. And then you have a bunch of horndogs with cameras. (Uh, yeah, well, I was technically working...)
The show ends Sunday...the model hours are 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Anyway, it all seems pretty tame after the shows at The Standard.
And in response to the comments, YES, there is video...via the XOXO site...

Archbishop Dolan vs. Marmaduke at St. Patrick's
Archbishop Timothy Dolan celebrated his first mass yesterday at Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
And I just happened to be walking by St. Patrick's on Fifth Avenue yesterday afternoon. (Oh -- Easter was last Sunday?) I took these photos after a mass, though I don't think they're of Dolan.
Why? Because more people would have been taking pictures of him rather than this! You should have seen the Great Dane parked out front of St. Patrick's! A photo frenzy!

Walking by the Lululemon Athletica shop
I'm always curious when I see storefronts being renovated, like the one at 156 Fifth Avenue at 20th Street. After quite a bit of work, it turned out to be a Lululemon Athletica shop, a place that sells yoga-inspired women's athletic wear. The store opened on Black Friday, Nov. 28. Fine. So I was a little startled when I walked by the store again this week...to see that's it's closing...and moving to a new Union Square location, which opens today. Dumb question, but why would you spend all the money to renovate a space only to close and move two months later...?

A faded ad on 57th and Fifth
Speaking of ads, this past holiday season I found myself in Midtown...I'd never noticed this faded spot at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue for the Greenwich Savings Bank...
For a better look, I braved the crowd at Tiffany & Co. and headed to customer service on the sixth floor.
I like the private little phone stalls in customer service. Plenty of space to call your bookie.

Back to the Stones age
That malarkey about an impromptu Fall Out Boy show yesterday at Washington Square Park made me want to...Oh, forget it.
On May 1, 1975, the Stones announced their summer tour by playing an impromptu set on a flatbed truck on lower Fifth Avenue. Here's some shitty-looking footage about the surprise gig from two newscasts...I love the couple's reaction at the 2:18 point.
