Movies returning this summer to Tompkins Square Park?

Another item of note from May's CB3 docket of meetings...

This sounds similar to last summer's EPIX Thursday night movie-concert series... And what highlights! Don King and Gilbert Gottfried in person! "The Warriors!" "Rosemary's Baby!" Of course, not everyone appreciated the corporate presence in the Park.

Anyway, we're sure they'll be more on this later...

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: Rosemary's Baby (And he STILL has his father's eyes!)

Tonight is the make-up date for "Rosemary's Baby," which was rained out back on Aug. 18.

We're your friends, Rosemary. There's nothing to be scared about. Honest and truly there isn't!

So that's it for the free summer movies. "The Warriors" was my favorite. You?

Meanwhile! A look back at a few of the summer movie highlights ... Please view while humming "That's What Friends Are For."

July 1!

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: vampire hunters, the undead — plus a movie!

OK, boo to the headline. Tonight is the second to last of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park. This evening's word picture: "Stake Land."

I don't know too much about this one. Let's head over to Wikipedia for a summary:

The United States is a lost nation. [Ed Note — duh] When an epidemic of vampirism strikes, humans find themselves on the run from vicious, feral beasts. Cities are tombs and survivors cling together in rural pockets, fearing nightfall. [Ed Note: Sounds like Third Avenue when school starts!] When his family is slaughtered, young Martin (Connor Paolo) is taken under the wing of a grizzled, wayward hunter (Nick Damici) whose new prey are the undead.
Simply known as Mister, the vampire stalker takes Martin on a journey through the locked-down towns of America's heartland, searching for a better place while taking down any bloodsuckers that cross their path. Along the way they recruit fellow travellers, including a nun (Kelly McGillis Ed Note: Woo!) who is caught in a crisis of faith when her followers turn into ravenous beasts. [Ed Note: 12 years of Catholic schools will do that to a guy!]

Sounds fun. Bring the kids!

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: Movie with a swear word in it

Tonight marks the seventh of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park. This evening's cinematograph: "Kick-A**"

Unfortunately, given the cuss word in the movie's title, we've can't mention it here. In fact, we will be circulating a petition during the screening of "Kick-A$$" tonight asking for it to be banned here and any other places where there might be children. This is NOT Times Square in the 1970s.

So, instead of a trailer of the film per usual, we will play something more wholesome.

OK, OK ... it's "Kick-Ass" from 2010 ... Here's a quickie recap from Rotten Tomatoes: "Adapted from Mark Millar's hyper-violent comic book of the same name, director Matthew Vaughn's (Layer Cake) vigilante superhero film tells the tale of an average New York teenager who decides to don a costume and fight crime. Comic book geek Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) may not have good coordination or special powers, but that doesn't mean he isn't a fully capable crime fighter."

And upcoming...

Aug. 18 — Rosemary’s Baby
Aug. 25 — The Godfather
Sept. 1 — Stake Land

In Tompkins Square Park — Kirk, Spock and Gottfried

Even though the new "Star Trek" is playing tonight ... someone brought along the old guys...

...as well as Gilbert Gottfried, who for some reason introduced the film ...

... and made Gottfried-like faces.

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park — 'Star Trek,' Gilbert Gottfried

Tonight marks the fourth of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park. This evening's talking picture: "Star Trek," the new one from J.J. Abrams circa 2009.

And, for some reason, Gilbert Gottfried is introducing the film. Seriously. And according to sponsor Epix's website, they're giving away the following tonight: one iPad, one Flip Cam and four 4-packs of tickets to the Rose Center at the Museum of Natural History.

And now, the trailer....

Before 'Raging Bull' tonight in Tompkins Square Park

Oh, don't worry — we won't be posting all these photos before every movie in Tompkins Square Park this summer... we were curious about the first one, what we could expect, etc.

If you went, what did you think? Of the scene, not the movie..

Things to be advised about before watching 'Raging Bull'

Why they'll be 'Contempt' tonight in Tompkins Square Park

As our friend Esquared told us ... the Films on the Green Festival will present a few French movies in Tompkins Square Park this summer.

And tonight: Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt" from 1963 starring (hubba hubba!) Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli and Jack Palance.

And on July 1: "Mr. Hulot's Holiday." Or, as we prefer — Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot.

The movies start at 8:30 p.m. Drink at your own risk.

Meanwhile, we're still wondering why the French hate us so much.
