can anyone really put up a sign and say "we will do 'X' because we posted a sign telling everyone we were going to do it"?

I've seen this Notice before on another outside production. For "Making It In NY" I believe.
The movie event's sponsor, Studio 3 Partners, is a new cable channel, VOD/ and online service made up of Viacom, Paramount, and MGM/Lionsgate. Theoretically, images of attendees could wind up in Studio 3 on-air promos, internet videos, print campaign, etc.
Now I feel badly for wearing my "epix sucks" T-shirt.
