Jesus Saves shines again on 11th Street
Workers yesterday re-installed the neon tubes in the Jesus Saves cross on 11th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...
Last October, workers had removed and stored the tubes during a capital improvement project here at the landmarked Father’s Heart Ministry Center, which provides a variety of services, from classes to meal services for the homeless, the elderly and working poor.
Find more details about the renovations at their crowdfunding page. And you can read my interview with Carol Vedral, co-founder and executive director of Father's Heart, here.

Jesus falls on 3rd Street and other Good Friday scenes
[Photo on 3rd Street by EVG reader David]
Here today on Third Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, parishioners from Most Holy Redeemer/Nativity Parish and St. Mary Grand took part in the "Way of the Cross" procession, a Good Friday tradition that marks the last stage of the journey that Jesus walked in his earthly life.
EVG correspondent Stacie Joy shared these photos... this year, the church officials mic'd the cross so you could hear the pounding of the "nails."

Good Friday on Avenue B
From the Church of Saint Brigid - Saint Emeric on Avenue B and East Eighth Street...the "Way of the Cross" procession for Good Friday...
More realistic this year... (Jesus and the Roman guards were not wearing tennis shoes, for instance, though I understand why you'd want to wear comfortable footwear for this.)

[Updated] Jesus is now chained to a fence on Avenue B
Well, I did go back to Avenue B and 13th Street tonight to see if the statue of Jesus on the market for $50 (plus $5 delivery!) was still there...
He is... I thought he was there for the taking, but there is a thick chain and padlock holding him to the fence...
Updated: Per a reader:
"This isn't Jesus, folks. Most likely a statue connected to Santeria, not a Catholic icon. From a website describing important Santeria statuary:
Babaluaye: Patron of the sick, especially diseases. Leprosy, gangrene and skin diseases. Saint Lazarus. White and purple beads. Old man on crutches accompanied by dogs."
