Patisserie Florentine has closed on 10th Street

After two years serving their signature almond croissants and other fresh-baked pastries, Patisserie Florentine has closed at 280 E. 10th St. just west of Avenue A. (Thanks to EVG readers Dan Scheffey and Tyler for the tip.)
A sign on the door greeting customers thanks everyone for their patronage .. and invites them to their two outposts in New Jersey. Patisserie Florentine is owned by brothers Tomer (the chef) and Itay (the accountant) Zilkha.
This space was previously Cafe Silan, another nice cafe spot that wasn't able to catch on despite quality food and service.
Also at this address and two storefronts away, the former Thirstea Café tea shop — which closed in September 2016 after seven years in business — was recently converted into a real-estate office.

Patisserie Florentine is in soft-open mode now at 280 E. 10th St. just west of Avenue A.
This is the second location for the bakery. The first opened in Englewood, N.J., in 2013. The bakery is owned by brothers Tomer (the chef) and Itay (the accountant) Zilkha.
Itay Zilkha shared more about what to expect on 10th Street.
"We are most known for our almond croissant, by far our best seller in Englewood, and we hope to become a destination for pastry lovers in the East Village," he said via email.
Unlike the well-regarded New Jersey location that has a full bistro menu, the 10th Street space will be limited to baked goods, made on the premises, and coffee. (There is a more limited menu and hours for now during their soft-opening phase.)
So why the East Village for PF's second location?
"We love the vibe and we love the people," Itay said. "We believe that the East Village can accommodate the biggest range of food styles as a result of the large demographic mix in the area and the residents' open-minded approach. It is important for us that our guests enjoy the 'neighborhood feel' in our store same as we managed to deliver at our store in Englewood."
And you'll likely recognize a familiar face at the bakery. Guy Jacobovitz, who ran Cafe Silan in this space until last summer, has partnered with the brothers to run the East Village store.

Patisserie Florentine coming soon to 10th Street
Coming soon signage recently arrived at 280 E. 10th St. just west of Avenue A. Back in September, an EVG tipster said that the former Cafe Silan space here would become a French bakery.
That part looks correct. The website listed on the sign goes to Patisserie Florentine, the 3-year-old Englewood, N.J.-based bakery-cafe. We reached out to them to learn more about this venture, though we haven't heard back just yet.
Per the bakery's Facebook page:
Patisserie Florentine brings a little of France, Stateside; the French bistro setting is a charming fusion of rustic & modern offering a convivial friendly atmosphere. Chef Tomer Zilkha introduces approachable European delicacies using produce from The Garden State. The artisan bakery & petit bistro is managed by a passionate family of cooks & bakers & genuine hospitality is provided by our Baristas & Waitstaff.
Cafe Silan, which served a variety of coffee and house-made pastries, closed back in July after nearly 18 months in business.
