Porchetta returns (for 6 weeks) to 7th Street

As we first noted back in November, Porchetta closed on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Matt Lindemulder (co-owner along with Porsena's Sara Jenkins) told us that they'd hope to find another location soon for the quick-serve restaurant, which specializes in Italian-style roast pork sandwiches and platters.

Grub Street reports that, starting today, Porchetta returns "as a six-week lunchtime pop-up" at Porsena Extra Bar, the Porsena spinoff restaurant that Jenkins owns at 21 E. Seventh St. between Second Avenue and Cooper Square.

Grub Street notes some menu additions, including rigatoni with porchetta ragù and porchetta mac ’n’ cheese.

Porsena Extra Bar opens at 11:30 a.m.

Storefronts at 110 E. 7th St. for rent

The for rent sign showed up this past Friday at 110 E. Seventh St., the former home of Porchetta.

The 8-year-old, quick-serve restaurant, which specialized in Italian-style roast pork sandwiches and platters, closed several weeks ago here between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Co-owner Matt Lindemulder told me that he was exploring several options and was looking forward to getting Porchetta up and running as soon as possible in a new location.

And it appears that both retail spaces at the address are available, according to the listing. (The rent is available upon request.) The other space housed Salon Seven. I do not know their status at the moment.

Neither here nor there but the Winick listing has a rundown of the neighboring businesses, four of which have closed or relocated.

The landlord is listed as Jakobson Properties.

Porchetta has closed on 7th Street; owners searching for new location

[Photo by the Bride of 7th]

Porchetta has not been open of late on Seventh Street... a note on the door points to repairs here between Avenue A and First Avenue. A tipster told us that business has been slow.

I reached out to co-owners Sara Jenkins and Matt Lindemulder to see what was happening.

Lindemulder confirmed that the Seventh Street location of Porchetta has now officially closed.

"We are not permanently shut just moving. We have not yet found the right location yet but we are exploring a couple of options and are looking forward to getting up and running as soon as possible," he said via email. "One of those options is in the East Village but nothing concrete has materialized."

The quick-serve restaurant, which specializes in Italian-style roast pork sandwiches and platters, opened in 2008. There are plenty of fans. New York magazine called Porchetta’s porchetta "drop-dead delicious, abundantly juicy, aggressively seasoned."

Jenkins also runs Porsena and Extra Bar on Seventh Street between Second Avenue and Cooper Square.

First sign of another possible Porchetta on Seventh Street

On March 1, we noted that Mingala Burmese Restaurant at 21 East Seventh St. (a few doors east of McSorley's) had closed. Then Eater brought word that the folks behind Porchetta just down the street applied for a liquor license (beer and wine) here for another venture...

And now the "attention residents" sign has gone up in one of the windows at 21 E. Seventh St.

Porchetta outpost taking over the Mingala Burmese space

Earlier today we mentioned that Mingala Burmese Restaurant at 21 East Seventh St. (a few doors east of McSorley's) had closed. Now Eater brings word that the folks behind Porchetta just down the street have applied for a liquor license here.
