Former Teavana still waiting to be converted into a Starbucks

Back in March, the Starbucks-owned Teavana closed on Broadway and East Ninth Street. This was one of those locations that was to become a regular old Starbucks by April.

A walk by the space the other day shows that it remains an empty storefront for now. (There are approved work permits for a renovation on file at the DOB.)

Meanwhile, on this block, the former Radio Shack is becoming ... a Wells Fargo bank branch next door to the Chase branch.

Teavana closes ahead of conversion into a Starbucks on Broadway

[Reader-submitted photo]

As expected, the Starbucks-owned Teavana has closed on Broadway and East Ninth Street.

Back in January, Starbucks announced that it will convert the three Teavana tea bar locations in New York into Starbucks stores by the end of April.

While the Teavana tea bars are closing, Starbucks will continue on with the nearly 350 Teavana retail outlets across the country

On Broadway, that Teavana (RIP Silver Spurs) will become a Starbucks

Starbucks is reportedly doing away with its Teavana tea bar concept, and is closing its three Manhattan locations, including the one on Broadway at East Ninth Street.

And what will replace Teavana? Per BuzzFeed, who first reported on this:

The company announced on Friday that it will convert the three Teavana tea bar locations in New York into Starbucks stores by the end of April.

For 34 years, the corner space here was home to Silver Spurs, the diner that closed in December 2013.

As for Teavana, Starbucks bought the Atlanta-based company for $620 million in December 2012. While the Teavana tea bars are closing, Starbucks will continue on with the nearly 350 Teavana retail outlets across the country.

Fit to a Teavana

The TEAVANA letters went up yesterday on Broadway at East Ninth Street.

As previously reported in July, the Starbucks-owned Teavana, a specialty tea and tea accessory retailer, was taking over the former Silver Spurs corner space.

Last December, Silver Spurs got rent-hiked out of its 34-year-old home here.

Gutting the former Silver Spurs space to make way for Teavana

Last month we noted that the Starbucks-owned Teavana was opening a location on Broadway and East Ninth Street.

We hadn't walked by this northwest corner for several weeks ... and, as the photo shows, the plywood is up and the gut renovation is on for the specialty tea and tea accessory retailer.

In December 2012, Starbucks bought the Atlanta-based Teavana for $620 million.

No word on an opening date yet for Teavana.

Starbucks-owned Teavana coming to the former Silver Spurs space on Broadway

Last December, Silver Spurs got rent-hiked out of its 34-year-old home on Broadway and East Ninth Street (prompting some teary letters from children in the process).

Now comes word of a new tenant in the diner's former space — another NYC branch of Teavana, a specialty tea and tea accessory retailer.

There isn't any signage up yet to indication the shop's arrival.

In December 2012, Starbucks bought the Atlanta-based Teavana for $620 million.

The other Silver Spurs location remains open on LaGuardia Place.
