The owners of Unregular Pizza unveil the Unregular Bakery on 4th Avenue

EVG reader pic!

The Unregular Pizza team is keeping it irregular.

Owners Gabriele Lamonaca and Paola Sinisgalli recently (Sept. 8!) opened Unregular Bakery a block south of their Fourth Avenue pizzeria.

Unregular Bakery, 124 Fourth Ave., just south of 13th Street, features a bomboloni (Italian doughnuts) and croissant menu overseen by Chef Warren Rojas. The draw here is the "Bombolone di grano arso" (burnt wheat bombolone) filled with stracciatella, capicollo and sundried tomato paste.

And per Unregular reps:
The bakery, just like the pizzerias, will offer a barter system: by signing up online, New Yorkers and visitors will be able to exchange other foods, drinks, experiences and/or art for the items mentioned above.

And!

The bakery is planning to launch the first-ever BomboFest (a bombolone festival) in New York City in November, inviting home-based bomboloni chefs to present their creations with the aim of displaying it at the bakery for a limited amount of time. The objective is to honor the fact that the owners' first business was born at home.
Bakery hours: Daily from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Unregular Pizza opened in May 2021 at 135 Fourth Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street. Before this, Lamonaca, who previously worked at EV restaurants Huertas and Cacio e Vino, made headlines for his bartering system. Lamonaca started experimenting with his pizza-making skills during the pandemic. From his Harlem apartment, he whipped up a handful of pies every week and made them available via barter.

There are now three NYC outposts of the pizzeria.

An appearance on GMA leads to an attack at Unregular Pizza on 4th Avenue

On Friday, the folks from Unregular Pizza were part of a "pizza showdown" segment in Times Square for "Good Morning America."

That appearance led to an attack at the shop, 135 Fourth Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street, on Sunday night, according to the Unregular Pizza Instagram account

Here's part of the post via owner Gabriele Lamonaca ... which also announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign
... someone we know — led by envy, jealousy and spite — threatened us on Instagram and then came into our store and attacked us and our staff members by throwing glass shakers and ceramic objects. He also shattered our door to pieces.

This was a traumatic experience and we hope, we will recover soon. One of our team members went to the hospital with a fractured arm.

In the meantime, we have opened this campaign to payback for the door and medical expenses if there will be any out of pocket. Obviously, we called the police and we hope that justice will be done. These acts of violence and vandalism will not go unnoticed. We won’t let bullies take us down.
Here's a video showing the vandalism at the pizzeria...

The baton-wielding suspect fled the scene in a red Jetta, and remained at large, as of yesterday morning, police and PIX 11 reported.

Lamonaca, who previously worked at East Village restaurants Huertas and Cacio e Vino, made headlines in for his unique bartering system. He started experimenting with his pizza-making skills during the pandemic. From his Harlem apartment, he whipped up a handful of pies every week and made them available via barter.

He opened his pizzeria on Fourth Avenue in May 2021.

Trading places: Are you ready for some Unregular Pizza?

Unregular Pizza opens today at 135 Fourth Ave. between 13th Street and 14th Street. There was a friends and family sneak preview last evening... (thanks to Steven for the pics!)
Owner Gabriele Lamonaca, who previously worked at EV restaurants Huertas and Cacio e Vino, made headlines earlier this year for his unique bartering system.

Lamonaca, who has wanted to open his own restaurant, started experimenting with his pizza-making skills during the pandemic. From his Harlem apartment, he whipped up a handful of pies every week and made them available via barter.

As the Rome native told the Post back in February, he didn't want to take people's money during such difficult financial times... so he traded his creations for everything from chocolate cake to chicken Milanese.
He said there's some historical precedent for bartering. During leaner times in post-World War II Italy, "My grandmother would bake bread and press olives into oil, and trade it to neighbors for eggs," he said.
Now though you can pay for the pies, which the Post declared the best in the city. You can follow the pizzeria on Instagram. It appears that Lamonaca will still hold some pizza barters. (Update: they will have once-daily trades.)

Hours: daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
