Last day for Xoom on 14th Street

As the tweet shows, today is the last day for Xoom, the smoothie-coffee bar on East 14th Street in the Pure Fitness retail space ... Last week, Xoom owner Jennifer London said, "Unfortunately, the gym ownership has not been able to hold up their side of our contract making it impossible for me to run my business there."

Xoom opened here this past July ... after moving from Seventh Street in the spring.

Xoom closing its doors on 14th Street next Wednesday

From the EV Grieve inbox... from Xoom owner Jennifer London

I am writing to inform you that as of Wednesday, November 23 Xoom will be closing its doors at Pure Fitness. Unfortunately, the gym ownership has not been able to hold up their side of our contract making it impossible for me to run my business there. I am quite disappointed as I was optimistic that this new location would be a great home for Xoom. I want to be clear that this decision does not reflect any negative feelings toward the staff and members of Pure Fitness. They have all been incredibly welcoming and supportive and the Xoom staff and I will miss working with and serving them.

I know this all seems very abrupt and I apologize for such short notice on our closing. This only became official this week and the timing made it such that closing next week was the best decision for everyone.

Because this all happened so quickly, I do not have any plans in place to re-open a store front any time soon. I would really like to keep Xoom alive in some shape or form and will absolutely keep you posted as plans develop. In the meantime, I am working on ways to bring Xoom to you by being available to "cater" a gathering, office breakfast or other such events. If you are interested in that let me know and I would be happy to work something out with you. When I have a concrete plan I will be sure to email you all again to let you know where I (and Xoom) land.

I encourage you to follow us on Twitter (@xoomnyc) and Facebook (Xoom NYC) this week as we will be having crazy blow out specials in order to move as much product as possible. Whatever is left over will be donated to City Harvest.

It has been a pleasure and I hope that I will be seeing you all again soon in whatever form Xoom takes in the future.

Xoom opened here this past July ... after moving from Seventh Street in the spring.

Xoom moving to CitiFitness on 14th Street

Back in March, the Xoom smoothie shop closed on Seventh Street for an anticipated move to another location in the neighborhood.

On Friday, after finalizing al the paperwork, Xoom owner Jennifer London sent out the following note:

We will be moving to 242 E. 14th Street just west of 2nd Avenue. We are going to be re-vamping the smoothie bar at CitiFitness. Xoom will be open to the public and you do not have to go through the gym to get to it. This space offers a wonderful opportunity for us to be in a high traffic area, and to have a built in customer base of gym members. We hope to re-open in July.

All of us at Xoom will obviously miss 7th Street, but are excited for this new opportunity. Oh, and, if you don't know already, my friends at Big Gay Ice Cream Truck are opening their new store front in Xoom's old space on 7th Street.

Xoom holding a coat and cold weather clothing drive

From the EV Grieve inbox...

This coming week, Xoom, the smoothie shop on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue, will be having a coat and cold weather clothing drive for the The Hetrick-Martin Institute. Hetrick provides free programs and services to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender young people in New York City. Please bring gently worn or new coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, etc. to Xoom Monday-Friday and they will deliver them to Hetrick.

If you have any questions, you can call the store 212-505-9666 or e-mail Jennifer the owner at jenn@xoomjuice.com.

Xoom opens today on Seventh Street

Also, in the comments on our last Xoom post, owner Jennifer London told us exactly what an infusional is:

"smoothies made with a shot of espresso in them. There is also one with chai and one with mate."

Xoom coming soon

The new canopy is up at Zoom on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. We noted back in August that Xoom, a healthy smoothie shop, would be opening soon.

The owner left a comment on that post explaining a little more about Xoom:

Hello everybody. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer London and I am the owner of Xoom. I live in the Lower East Side and am very fond of the East Village, which is why I chose to open there. I wanted to assure you that although there are three other Xooms (all owned and operated by the founder in Tucson), Xoom is far from a chain. I was a regular at Xoom when I lived in Tucson and became friends with the owner. This spring, I asked him if I could open a Xoom in New York and he agreed. For all intents and purposes, this is a locally owned business with its own personality that I assure you will make a good neighbor in the East Village. If you have any questions feel free to go to our website, click on the New York side of the site and you can find my contact info there.

(And for the record, in that post, we also misspelled Tucson about 50 times.)

Arizona-based smoothie outlet coming to Seventh Street

Xoom Juice. At the site of the former Tiny Living shop, which closed in April, on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. Xoom has three locations in Tuscon, Ariz. So what are we in for? According to their Web site:

what's the xoom difference? good question
well, for starters, it's what we leave out of our drinks: no sherbet, no sorbet, no ice cream, no added sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, or anything to artificially flavor our smoothies.

so what's left? how about just pure fruit, 100% fruit juice, organic soymilk or milk, and a bit of yogurt (frozen or fresh or non-dairy), and a *xoomer* nutrient boost. that's it. end of story.

we do this for two reasons:
1) it is really healthy
2) it tastes fabulous

we figure why mess with mother nature?

we just blend it together

The Tuscon Weekly has named Xoom the "best smoothie" the last four years... though, having never been to Tuscon, we're not sure what their competition is like...
