Here is your new Violet awning on 5th Street

On Friday afternoon, workers hoisted the Violet awning here at 511 E. Fifth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B... another step toward the November grand opening of the grilled pizzeria from the Emmy Squared owners.

Dueling business awnings on Avenue A

Now, to the business awning news. As previously mentioned, the owners of Top A Nails are moving into the empty retail space next to their existing shop on Avenue A between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street...

And yesterday afternoon, workers put up the new awning for 139 Avenue A... right next to the existing awning at No. 137...

Which one do you prefer?

As for No. 137, the listing shows an asking rent of $6,800.

No. 139 last housed Sustainable NYC, the eco-minded general store and café that closed for good last summer.

The Crocodile Lounge introduces its new clean, green awning

[The previous awning via Malcolm Brown/NYCGo]

As noted earlier this month, the awning disappeared from the Crocodile Lounge, 325 E. 14th St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue... apparently it was damaged by a strong gust of wind...

[April 2]

...Now, a reader on East 14th Street notes this afternoon that the new awning has arrived... and it's very green (and clean)...

Another pizza concept, awning for 35 First Ave.

[Photo by Mary Jones via Google]

We have our third pizza place and awning combo in the past year or so at 35 First Ave. near East Second Street… where we went from Empire Pizza II to IL Gusto Italiano to, now, Farid's Middle Eastern Grill Food & Pizza…

Sadly, we could not locate our photo of IL Gusto Italiano for comparison. (And we do not know a thing about any of these places. Anyone?)

Also, we do not know if Farid's will be employing the awesome* flashing sign… let's go back to the summer of 2012 for some Empire Pizza II razzle signage dazzle…

[* not really awesome]

Here is the new awning at Doc Holliday's on Avenue A

Last Tuesday, workers removed the well-worn awning outside the saloon here at East Ninth Street...

And one week later... the new-look awning went up ...

[Top photos by Bobby Williams]

...and the old one via Google... pretty similar, though the word "restaurant" no longer appears... didn't recall that they even served food...

EV Grieve Eatery Etc.: New awning for HiFi; 'training event' for L'Apicio

Just a few random items from the last few days/nights...

----------

We like HiFi on Avenue A. We also like restaurants/bars with awnings (mostly). That said. HiFi now has a new-look front with an awning...

[Bobby Williams]

----------

Over on East First Street in the Shoppes at Avalon Bowery Place, L'Apicio is closer to opening... there was a soft opening of sorts last night...

Sign called it a "training event." The New York Times noted that "some entrees, like roast pig, will be available family-style, for sharing." And apparently they have good meatballs.

And here is the kitchen entrance.... adorned with new art...

Did you get to say goodbye to those GIANT SUSHI ROLL PHOTOS along here?

[Last summer]

----------

And another sign of fall: People's Pops recently closed for the season on East Seventh Street...

And a reader noted the chalkboard outside outside Fresco Gelateria on Second Avenue...

The tattoo-piercings-smoking-accessories awning war is on!

Yesterday, workers installed a new awning/sign for Kulture on St. Mark's Place between Second Avenue and Third Avenue...

And today...

Meanwhile, almost directly across the street...

Hmm. Tough call. Will have to see these at night to be a favorite.
