A bike rack bike theft?
EVG reader Cheyenne shared these photos from Avenue B and Ninth Street, where thieves apparently didn't bother with trying to clip a lock ... and cut the bike rack instead...

Reader report: Bike room burglarized at Icon's 2nd Avenue residential building
A resident who lives at 152-154 Second Ave. reports that the building's secure bike storage room in the basement was recently burglarized.
Per the resident: "All the locks [were] cut and about seven bikes are gone. You need two keys to access this room. I'm not necessarily saying it was an inside job, but there wasn't any forced entry."
The theft happened some time between Aug. 18 to Aug. 23. According to the resident, several people have access to the bike storage area, including the other tenants (there are 12 units in total), cleaning staff and super.
The resident says that the building has security cameras. To date there haven't been any updates from management about the theft, according to the resident.
Landlord Icon Realty began converting the former Sigmund Schwartz Gramercy Park Chapel between East Ninth Street and East 10th Street into a residential building with three additional floors in April 2012. The rentals hit the market back in March.

[Updated] Report: Man arrested for street sign bike theft
The Post had a follow-up today on our item about the man who stole a bicycle on 13th and A by climbing up on a table and removing a no parking sign from its metal post ... Anyway! According to the Post, the NYPD arrested 51-year-old Haram Guzman ... and charged him with petit larceny and possession of burglary tools. Witnesses picked him out of a lineup.
According to the headline, the East Village was "stunned by brazen do-badder."
Were you stunned?

[Updated] Man removes alternate side parking sign to steal bike on East 13th Street
Here's the scene on the north side of East 13th Street at Avenue A Sunday morning around 7:15... Larry Watson, proprietor of Percy's Tavern, pieced this together from the surveillance cameras... showing a man arriving on the scene with a bag of tools...
He cut the tether wire from the restraint to remove a table from Percy's sidewalk cafe... he then placed it under the alternate side parking sign ... and climbed up to remove the street sign...
... the man then lifted the bike over the pole and calmly walked away...
Watson cautions anyone from locking their bike to this sign... "as it has been prepped for the right bike to be tied to it."
Here's a Google Street View showing the sign... and bike attached to the pole...
