Why there's a dining room set in the middle of Avenue B

Crews arrived early this morning for a shoot on 10th Street and Avenue B... a crew member said it's a short film titled "1956" ...

The NYPD is redirecting traffic on Avenue B ... several motorists have been grumbling ... (Avenue C is closed between Sixth Street and 12th Street for the Loisaida Festival ... so apparently driving and parking is a bit of a hassle for the time being. More of a hassle than usual...)

Anyway! Here's the street set...

...and as is customary, someone needs to be passed out asleep on the film set...

Waiting for Mila?

Odessa Cafe on Avenue A is the site of an interior shoot for "Blood Ties," the 1970s-era family crime drama starring Clive Owen and Mila Kunis ... The crew seems to be locking down the sidewalk more so than usual, a few passersby have noted...

That '70s show on Avenue A with 'Blood Ties'

"Blood Ties," a 1970s-era family crime drama, will be filming around parts of Avenue A and Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place today, most likely. (Unless the rain KOs filming for the day... It is supposed to rain, right?) Clive Owen and Mila Kunis star in the English-language debut of director (and actor!) Guillaume Canet ... it's actually a remake of the 2008 French thriller "Les Liens Du Sang" ... the cast includes Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana, James Caan, Lili Taylor and Domenick Lombardozzi...

Maybe it's a Maybelline TV commercial?

From earlier today on Avenue A at St. Mark's Place... a Maybelline TV commercial... featuring, here, Charlotte Kemp Muhl... (she's dating Sean Lennon? I can't keep up with all this...)

A film crew in Tompkins Square Park today didn't appreciate photographers standing around this public space...

Does your son have what it takes to play Kristen Wiig's son?

As we noted yesterday, Ben Stiller's remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is filming around here next week. The movie co-stars Kristen Wiig. There are flyers up in Tompkins Square Parks seeking boys. (These signs always seem creepy.)

Per the sign, Wiig's character's son Rich "is good-natured, a native New Yorker and loves to skate."

"Must be able to skateboard. Tricks like Ollies and kickflips a plus."

People of interest

The CBS show "Person of Interest" is filming on Avenue B today... Jim Caviezel and (is that Kevin Chapman?) near Seventh Street. Photo by Melanie Neichin, who has more shots at East Village Corner.

Vazac's has a new name... for today

Over on Seventh Street and Avenue B, Vazac's (or 7B ... whatever you prefer) has been renamed The Bushwhack (heh) for the day while crews film the NBC series "Smash."

How your apartment can star in a CBS medical drama

Hmm, can't quite make that sign out... scouts for the CBS medical drama "A Gifted Man" are looking for a first floor or ground-floor apartment to use on Monday, Nov. 21. Interested? Call Ana at (917) 548-3201... spotted at Sixth Street near Avenue B...

We'll hold out for CBS' "2 Broke Girls."

Today in photos of Edie Falco in Tompkins Square Park

As you may have noticed, the Showtime series "Nurse Jackie" is filming around Tompkins Square Park... and Seventh Street... and St. Mark's Place ... and Avenue A ... and First Avenue... Bobby Williams was on hand for the action....

'Modern Love' filming at Vazac's today

Filming continues around here today for the pilot episode of "Modern Love," a series for Lifetime. Per Vulture, the show "centers on the science editor at the New York Times (or a modified version thereof) who suddenly becomes the 'Modern Love' editor while his marriage is dissolving and he's raising a 15-year-old daughter."

And today they'll be filming inside Vazac's/7B at Seventh Street and Avenue B ... so you may need to find another place to drink in the afternoon... (And did they ever find that "hip, eclectic type loft or apartment?" for the series?)

Also! Be sure to bring your Eric Stoltz and Ally Sheedy paraphernalia to have signed. These under-appreciated actors are the leads.

Speaking of Ally Sheedy, may we recommend her in "Man's Best Friend" from 1993...

And now, photos of Ice-T in front of Sunny & Annie's

Today, crews from "Law & Order: SVU" were filming around the neighborhood... in front of Sunny & Annie's on Avenue B at Sixth Street in particular...Not exactly newsworthy given how many times something from the "Law & Order" franchise filmed around here through the years...

Still! It gave us a chance to add to our Ice-T collection... courtesy of Bobby Williams...

East Fifth Street transformed into Bedford Avenue another era

Dave on 7th checks back in on the filming this afternoon of "Greetings From Tim Buckley" on East Fifth Street, where Sophie's is subbing for 1960s-era Night Owl Cafe

Night Owl Cafe lives again at Sophie's — but just for today

Crews are on East Fifth Street today to film scenes for "Greetings from Tim Buckley." ("Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley is Jeff Buckley in this film.)

The Jeff Buckley-Tim Buckley biopic is using Sophie's as a backdrop (both inside and outside the bar). Dave on 7th was on the scene this morning...

Sophie's is subbing for the Greenwich Village 1960s mainstay Night Owl Cafe, where Tim Buckley played his first NYC gig in 1966 (and the Lovin' Spoonful came to fame). Read more about the club here. This address on West Third Street has been home to Bleecker Bob's since 1983.

'Greetings From Tim Buckley' filming in the East Village

[Photo on Fifth Street and Avenue A via a very special tipster]

Expect to see crews for the new Jeff Buckley-Tim Buckley biopic filming around the East Village in the coming weeks. We've heard that they've been scouting some familiar locations.

Now! A quick synopsis of the film:

Greetings from Tim Buckley follows the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s eminent 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he learns to embrace all of his feelings toward the father who abandoned him — longing, anger, forgiveness, and love. Culminating a cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs, Jeff’s debut stuns the audience and launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time.

And, well, Penn Badgley of "Gossip Girl" fame — and no stranger to the East Village! — is playing Jeff.

Anyway, doesn't seem like that long ago that Jeff Buckley was playing at Sin-é at 122 St. Mark's Place in the early 1990s.

[Jeff Buckley circa 1993 via]

The St. Mark's version of Sin-é closed in 1996. Jeff Buckley drowned in Memphis in 1997.

Updated: Our friends at This Ain't the Summer of Love note in the comments that Anthrax bassist Frank Bello will portray Richard Hell in the movie.

The Muppets take Manhattan, sort of

Dave on 7th notes that a crew is filming something with a Muppet Murray Monster now in Tompkins Square Park near the dog run.

One dog owner told us that the crew members were grumbling about so many dogs barking.

Earlier, a very special EV Grieve correspondent noted that the poor Muppet Murray Monster had seemingly been impaled...

And what Muppet is this? Elmo's Crusty Cousin? Thanks to a reader... it's Murray Monster.

'How to Make it in America' films at Ray's Candy Store

Last Monday, Ray was busy cleaning a DOH-shuttered store on Avenue A... And this past Monday (uh, yesterday), a reopened Ray's was the backdrop for a scene from the HBO show "How to Make it in America."

The film crew was lined up along Avenue A...

Meanwhile, Bob Arihood has an anecdote on the filming here.

East Village subs for Inwood in 'Law and Order' shoot

Filming for "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" continued yesterday inside (and outside!) Vazac's on Avenue B and Seventh Street... Not really newsworthy given the various "Law & Order" shows having been filming around here for nearly 20 years...

However, it did seem as if the cast members — especially former Christodora House resident and L&O cast member Vincent D'Onofrio — were especially accessible, posing for many photos...

...and look at the temporary street signs on Seventh And B...
