Maybe renting that place on 3rd Avenue isn't such a bad idea after all

We picked this up from Curbed:

New data published in Science shows that if the planet warms by 2 degrees Celsius, sea levels will rise about 20 feet. It's pretty much a given that this will happen, it's just a matter of when — it could be by the end of the century.

And!

In New York, it means that entire neighborhoods would be wiped out and 1.8 million people would be displaced.

And if/when this happens, the water will wash over a good part of this neighborhood... west to First Avenue in spots... south to Avenue A around East Fourth Street...

City officials today hinted that the rising sea levels will push back the completion date of the East Houston Reconstruction Project by 27 years.

Updated: Part of East Houston is currently flooded, along with Katz's basement

Yikes! Part of East Houston near Ludlow is currently flooding (flooded?). Save the pastrami!

Not sure what is going on at the moment here ... crews have been working on the water mains as part of the never-ending East Houston reconstruction project now in its 457th year...

Here's a shot of the damage on East Houston... a sinkhole has formed on the the eastbound lanes between Orchard and Ludlow...

According to published reports, 13 nearby buildings are now without water after the circa-1959 pipe broke under East Houston. In addition, Brooklyn Vegan notes that tonight's Stone Jack Jones and Ex-Cult shows at the Mercury Lounge have been cancelled tonight.

Gusher on Third Avenue

A fire hydrant sprung a leak this morning at Third Avenue and 12th Street.




Someone had called 911. Just a matter of waiting and being entertained...




Within, say, 8 minutes, a crew arrived from the Department of Environmental Protection.



The oil screw on top of the hydrant was stripped...



So the crew had to shut off the valve under the street. (I don't really know hydrant-speak...you get the idea.)



And why not?
