(Updated) Rally to Save Ray's: A little while ago on Avenue A
The protest/fundraiser/street party for Ray's Candy Store continues...stop by and say hello to the Slacktivists... go inside and buy something to eat or drink...
Melanie has posted some of her photos here. ... Bob Arihood has photos, too, at Neither More Nor Less. ... Slum Goddess has more, including a short narrative about the evening. As she wrote:
People stood across from Ray's with signs and candles and chanted at people to buy stuff to help Ray. I wasn't sure if this would scare people away and hinder business, but business was really good for Ray and Ray was very happy about all the support and love shown.
There will be more on this later...

Dumpster marks the beginning of the end of 47 E. Third St.
As The Villager reported in its current issue, on Aug. 27, tenants moved out of 47 E. Third Street -- home of the infamous, longstanding battle with building owner Alistair Economakis.
According to the paper, Economakis may have also moved out -- at least temporarily. Pr maybe not.
And now a dumpster is in place in front of the building for collecting the remains of the renovation that will turn the tenement into the family's Mansion.
And check back with the paper later this week: There will be more of an interview with Alistair Economakis -- his longest to date with the media.
Previously on EV Grieve:
Report: Alistair Economakis is suing his cousin Evel for libel
And Economakis gets the whole building for his dream mansion

Rally for the homeless Friday night
Swung by the Slacktivists rally for the homeless Friday night in front of the Christodora... John Penley was holding court out front talking with a reporter....
Didn't get to stay too long. Bob Arihood noted that no one was arrested. The police seemed to think a lot more people might be showing up...
Slum Goddess has more (entertaining!) details from Friday night...Just looking for the drippiest AC in the EV...

Reminder tonight: Rally for homeless outside the Christodora
Scoopy has more in this week's issue of The Villager:
“We’re going to ask Michael Rosen to adopt us — me, Jim Power and Biker Billy,” L.E.S. Slacktivist leader John Penley explained. Penley said he hasn’t actually read Rosen’s new book, “What Else but Home: Seven Boys and an American Journey Between the Projects and the Penthouse,” in which Rosen recounts the story of how he and his wife opened their home to a group of local youths. “I heard reports. People said it’s not bad,” Penley said of the book. “We’d like to move into the penthouse, too — if he wants three new sons... . We’re not all that young!” Penley added that the camp-out concept is being well received: “A lot of people expressed gratitude that somebody’s doing something that’s a little radical this summer,” he said.
