The Bean will be the Crazy Landlord's new tenant on Second Avenue

Work continues at 54 Second Ave. at Third Street, home of the beloved "Crazy Landlord" sign.

Despite some rumors ("garment store with sex toys"!), the storefront will be home to the new East Village location of The Bean, currently housed on First Avenue and Third Street... just a block away. Permits with the DOB confirm the new tenant.

While walking by yesterday, EV Grieve regular jdx noted a new name on the buzzer...

We don't have all the details on the move to Second Avenue. The Crazy Landlord did confirm the new tenant. We'll have more later...

Meanwhile, the Bean is finalizing their plans to open an outpost on 12th and Broadway as well.

The Bean's new home on Broadway

On Friday, we reported that the Bean is expanding its operation from its Third Street/First Avenue home... We're just confirming the second location on Broadway at 12th Street across from the Strand...

EV Grieve reader/contributor jdx notes this sign in the window at the Bean on First Avenue and Third Street. Perhaps at this location?

Not open yet.

@bslif Lots of stunned faces staring at door.

Has the Bean reopened yet?

The Bean GM tweeted yesterday that they were simply late on paying $24,784.50 in taxes and they'll be back open today...

EV Grieve reader Creature went by this morning.... not open yet. And I think they usually start at 7 a.m.?

Report: The Bean owes $24,784.50 in back taxes

Earlier today, we reported that the State shuttered the Bean on First Avenue at Third Street for failure to pay back taxes. Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo has a follow-up:

The Department of Taxation and Finance spokeswoman added that four warrants for failure to pay taxes totaling $24,784.50 are still open on the property.

Bean cab crash makes for a good photo opp

I saw this photo from the aftermath of Saturday night's crash in front of Bean at James Del, LTD (via Neighborhoodr).

One thing really stood out in this angle... what is that couple on the right doing?

Is this a good time for photos? Maybe they're tourists? Oh honey — look, here's one of you near where that cab drove into that coffee shop...

Did the Bean reopen too soon?

Not a criticism, just a question. After the horrific crash late Saturday night, I talked with several people who were surprised to see the Bean reopened Sunday morning at First Avenue and Third Street... Given the gory details that I heard, I was surprised too... One of the most severely injured, 71-year-old Preston Krupin, was sitting inside the Bean...

I made note of the reopening on Sunday morning...

On Sunday morning, a woman walked by carrying flowers... which she laid on the street. "Someone needs to put flowers here," she said.

On Monday morning, I heard maybe a dozen people in about 20 minutes time make mention of the crash....

It seemed to become a ghoulish point of interest.
