The Bean reopen after last night's accident

Given the horrific scene here early this morning, wasn't sure what to expect walking by the Bean at First Avenue and Third Street ... the cafe is open.... and it seems like business as usual.... a few people asked what happened... one worker on duty professed not to know many details of the accident....

Outside, a woman walked by carrying flowers... which she laid on the street. "Someone needs to put flowers here," she said.

I was happy (and surprised) to see them open today. So sad to know people were hurt so badly...and now news that someone has died. I can't help but think this could have been avoided if people just obeyed traffic laws more carefully. What was once a really nice relaxing corner where you could sit and feel safe...well, now you just don't know. My condolences to everyone involved.

I would like to clarify that I was only one of many people helping the injured at the scene of this accident. There was one man holding that young man's head the entire time. There were men and women at each injured person, helping and offering solace and comfort. They all showed a great deal of compassion till the medical units arrived. Makes me proud of New Yorker's all over again. p.s. I did know one them has passed away.. I am heartbroken
